Any AOL folks out there?
I'm a long time AOL user; I have it down pretty well by now and can navigate to many of it's applications. But I'm stumped on this one. I've been using their Favorite Places application for years and years and years. I've never had difficulty with it. I have a huge file folder called Magic, with all of my favorite websites, effects, optical illusions, and you name it. Today I tried to access it and I find it's gone. Disappeared. I've tried everything I know of to try and bring it back, but to no avail. I haven't a clue. I'm not a paid member anymore and so I don't enjoy tech help or chat help privileges. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Yes. Do what I did over twenty years ago. Dump AOL. We didn't call it AOHELL for nothing.

You might have a point there Bob, but I have so much saved there, I don't how I could recoup everything and transfer it to a new ISP. For instance, I have probably ten years or more of emails and sent mails that would probably be impossible to move. I know that sounds silly, but old emails serve a useful function to me in that if I try to establish a time frame for something I did or said, or acted upon, or whatever, I can do a search and find what I'm looking for.
And frankly I never had any issues with AOL before except in the old dial-up days. I also find that I can send huge blocks of data and or pics without being limited, as I believe some other ISPs do where you have to send multiple emails to get it all sent. Anyway, I'm probably rationalizing, but I still find AOL useful.

Thanks Bob! I tried using AOL help but didn't find that particular "help." Thanks for taking the time to help! I'll let you know how it turns out.

After playing around this for various parts of yesterday and today, I finally restored my original favorite places with a backup copy, but it took some time to figure it out. Definitely not user friendly instructions. But all that matters is I now have my macic file back.
So thanks again Bob cheers, bob

Glad it worked. Good thing you made a back up.

I actually didn't make a backup copy! I had to sign on as a guest, using my regular screen name and password and there it was, in my Favorite Places. From there I made the backup and signed on regularly and backed it up. Don't make no sense to me, but it worked, at least on my laptop anyway. I still don't have it on my desk top computer. But I can simply email the backup copy to myself from the laptop and use it the same way on the desktop computer to restore it there. I have a feeling my desktop AOL got corrupted somehow.
