I trying to figure out what the style of an old table is called.
The table had a rectangle top with four smaller 1" rails that held it on the top, with a two main panels mdf that formed a triangular mid section that was two pieces hinged with two hinges. It had a triangle that fit inside near the bottom from the back that rested on shelf supports. I owned somewhere in the range of 24 of these over the years but I completely blank as to what its called, I think it cam from Grant or Abbotts back in the day and many of them had dragons painted on the panels front with yellow background. The back was black. If some one can post either a name of this table, photo and sizes of the two main panels? I will be very grateful. Thanks Bill |

Sounds like a basic side table. There is a table in the Mark Wilson book that follows this idea. It is the same basic plan I used to make my skeleton tables.
The front panels can be whatever height you want (mine are 36"), and widths range from 14"-18". Any narrower makes the table unstable... any wider makes it a bit too bulky. Abbott's also had their novelty tables (rabbit, Jack, etc.). These consisted of a front panel and one behind that hinged so it could be perpendicular to the front, forming a stand. The top can fit on in a similar way, but I've seen some that had the top also hinged, so the entire thing folded, but remained in one piece.

Stencil. Look closely and you can see the overspray in a couple spots. I'm in the process of making a few more, but I broke my stencil, so I'm needing to make another. It's time consuming.

Thanks. I think you're right they were called side tables and were usually sold in pairs. Sometimes the simplest names are the ones that confuse me.
