Hi ya,
First time poster, long time lerker. I am planning on hosting a seance party for halloween this year for a small-ish group of friends. I have been doing my research and have purchased paul voodini's e-book on seances, the gloomy sunday script, and the duel spirit lamp kit from unleash your dreams. It comes with a ton of goodies, so many so I am not sure I will use them all in this one performance, but I am sure I will put them to good use as one offs, or in another performance some other time. I really like the gloomy sunday script, but it doesn't use a spirit lamp, and I am not sure I would want to do the "tricks" that are included. I would love a script that uses some of items in my kit. I am willing to take a script and tweek it was well, I am not sure I am versed enough to write one from scratch, but I am totally willing to adapt one. Can you throw me in the right direction of finding other seance scripts or resources? I also know it might be far stretch, but I would love it if it has some San Francisco history as that is where I live, but I realize that maybe a stretch. One other thing is I would love to do is send people some information before the party to get them warmed up and excited, last year I threw a Halloween party and I sent this out with no explanation as the invite. http://youtu.be/GxVylTFk6lI I am a professional video editor, so it would be awesome to make a little video, or even just have documents I could send them. Any advice or ideas? |

Thanks so much fire starter, I'll take a look. I also thought about developing a backstory to the props...
I was thinking I'd photoshop some fake ebay pages with some of the items, claiming they were haunted, and send these to my guests, saying, look what I found for our seance! Or include them in my video invite this year. |

I LOVE the video thegreatmotwani...the problem with doing something that good is that people will expect something just as good if not better this year.
No pressure or anything...
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Thanks for your replies guys, I have come up with a couple ideas, I am hoping to make the video invite in he next couple weeks here, so I will post it when it's done. I have full faith I can outdo last years
Basically, at this point (and I could change my mind, I tend to do that), I am thinking I am going to make a fake ebay page with some of the items, like I mentioned. I am going to try and play it kind of like a dybuk box type thing. I ordered some haunted items on ebay, and now that I received them, strange things are happening around my house. I must have let a spirit loose. In the video I will show some the weird things that are happening. Then for the seance (which I haven't fleshed out yet), we will try and contact the spirits using the spirit lamp, something that was sent to me from a world renown medium who I contacted and had been speaking with. He wanted to help facilitate me contacting the spirits that are now haunting my house. I need to come up with specifics, but that's the main gist as of now. Peter, I really like your spirit lamp designs, I have already ordered one from unleash your dreams, but if I get a hankerin for another one I will hit you up! It depends on how well this halloween seance goes. |

Unleash Your Dreams makes a really good product, I'm sure you will get everything you need from them. Thank you for considering my offering. Good luck with your show.

Your story sounds similar to my own introduction to bizarre magic.
My first effect was a spirit lamp from UYD. (Part of their seance box) The werkz needed to be virtually on top of it to make it work. To be blunt, it was useless. (But hooked me into the bizarre world...) I had quite a bit of correspondence with them and was told that "I might have been sent one with a weak _____" They said they'd ship out a replacement.. and it never arrived. I tried several more times to contact them and they never answered my emails. I gave up plans to hold a seance party and hunkered down to do more research. I then ordered etherica from Outlaw. It's an amazing lamp.. so cool and I don't even have to be in the room to make it go off. As Halloween is right around the corner, I wanted to give you a heads up that IMHO the UYD lamp may not work the way you imagine it to. Personally, I would buy a H*bbs box from Outlaw Effects. It's such a great utility prop. It can hurl things off the top, ring a spirt bell.... it has so many possibilities it will get your creative ideas flowing for your show. The only item from UYD I found useful was their "protection bottle" and that works nicely with my H*bbs. |

Every experience I've had trying to adapt the work of someone else has been, in my eyes, vastly inferior to the stuff I've come up with myself. Eugene Burger says a lot about this, too -- the stuff you make up on your own works for you. For example, I was about to suggest a story about finding this old device (the Duel Morphic Lamp) in the basement of some building (abandoned school/asylum/etc., grandpa's basement workshop, [insert creepy destination of choice]), along with some reel-to-reel recordings, including a scratchy and stretched-out Gloomy Sunday. While you're not exactly sure what the device does, you wanted to show it off to your friends, first --- *ramble ramble* The point is, that story would work for ME, because that's the type of person I am -- I do a lot of "junk-hunting", and Urban exploration, so it would be entirely plausible to my friends that I found this old device, and even the reel-to-reel recording. Moreover, it would be easy for me to believe that story myself as I was telling it, and make it even more plaussible to my audience. Maybe not so much for someone trying to use that story themselves; it sounds like the Dybbuk box route is working well for you! Good Luck, and be sure to tell us how it all goes! |

For me it helped to get a few working props I could integrate and rotate in and out. There are those that say you don't need a prop.. but having something like H*bbs box or Etherica that really worked helped up my confidence... and helped me get more creative actually relying less on props! |

Hey Ya'll,
For my video invite I decided to do something a bit more vague than what I had originally thought. Here is what I ended up with, I emailed my guests with the subject line "shhh..." and then just the line, "This is for you." and the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWnGZnGlB9A |
