I like Ron Bauer's "Fair & Sloppy." It uses Sid Lorraine's Slop Shuffle. And if anyone thinks that the Slop Shuffle isn't convincing, watch this video...

I'm sure they switch the shuffle out because they think the Zarrow is easier. The Triumph shuffle isn't particularly difficult once you understand what is happening. In fact I believe it would be easier to learn than the Zarrow.
I don't believe the Zarrow had been published at the time Triumph came out. But a good Zarrow works really well for the effect. Especially if you are working on a hard surface. At least that is my experience. But the key is "good". Too many of the Zarrow's we see are just not that good or convincing. Pepka had it right I believe. One shuffle only. And someone else posted that the audience either believes the cards are shuffled up and down or not. If you can build that belief and do nothing to cancel it out you will have a great effect on your hands. Sadly too many of the handlings have so much going on that it can lead to spectators thinking you are straightening things out when you aren't. But the most convincing for me has always been the original with either the Triumph or Zarrow. But whichever you choose it has to be done very well and convincingly. All my opinions of course. |

Jared Kopf's take on the Dai Vernon Triumph for sure. I've seen Jared perform it multiple times and it is truly a thing of beauty. His false shuffle is flawless.

I have tried, on multiple occasions to wrap my brain around Pit Hartlings Master of the mess. I read halfway through, managed to get a card lodged in my arm and a nosebleed. From what I understand it is a triumph of triumph! Anyone have a video they can post of it? I never did see it live.
as per my Fav triumph, I have to 2nd "double exposure". Crowds love it! |

Apologies for spamming but it does seem german to the poster's question.

There are many tricks, and many effects, but rarely a Grand Effect. There are many entertainers, but few real magicians. Many technicians, but few artists who use their art to explore their vision. - Derren Brown, Absolute Magic

I like to do the one from the Card C0llege series enhanced with the infinity principle.

I also really enjoy the Jared Kopf routine. A very clean/motivated display and no need for a strip out.

One thing I found - it's best to let the first card(s) to fall in the shuffle come from the RIGHT half. Otherwise, the bottom card wants to shift over to the RH packet when the transfer move is done. Other than that, I never saw any particular defect in Vernon's original structure (tho I can see the desire for a stand-up handling). I do like Daryl's(?) six-packet display, though.

Vernon's, for sure. It's an effect where directness and simplicity are everything, and I agree with those who say one shuffle is best. More than one shuffle and people begin to think the routine is a demonstration of false shuffling and card control rather than a direct magical reversal. Which is fine as it goes but a different thing. I like Bill Malone's take on Marlo's three packet Triumph though - suggesting it's the spectator who has done all the work.

Darwin Ortiz: 52 Pick-Up, page 109, from the book Lessons in Card Mastery (2012) is my favorite: a very strong and utterly convincing Triumph-style effect. This ONE you will use...
Darwin Ortiz: Fast Company, page 121, from the book Lessons in Card Mastery, another convincing and powerful Triumph-effect. |

Just finished the Bill Malone Penguin lecture.
Both Terry Lagerould's Man from New York and the Marlo "simple" Triumph were both very convincing. But then, perhaps Bill can make almost anything look good. |

I must give a nod the Darwin Ortiz for his effect, "Fast Company."
Here's the performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wftv_ciA0Uo Side note: The download also comes with a REALLY good discussion by Mr. Ortiz on magic theory.

Interesting little "Triumph" type effect in "The Complete Walton".
"The Overworked Card." It's a neat, short, convincing effect where the deck is mixed(face up and face down) and a card is placed on the spectators palm and the deck placed on top of that. The card rises to the top in the spectator's hand and along the way manages to turn all the cards in the same direction. I got the books last year but am just now really getting into all the cool effects in them. Anyway--if you want a quick, easy and convincing routine this is a good one. |
