He is coming out with a penguin download devoted to nothing but that routine.

We did four hours and forty-five minutes and covered as much as we could in addition to trying to answer all of the questions that were being called in and that were asked in the Penny thread about the lecture.
Those who know me or have seen me lecture before, know that I've never been able to do an effect/method, effect/method etc. etc. lecture. Personally, I wish they hadn't posted a set list of things that I thought I MIGHT get to, time permitting. I can understand why those who really aren't mentalists and are used to traditional lectures, might have been disappointed. But I honestly feel we covered a lot of extremely valuable material without me having to cover stuff that I've already covered at length and in depth in my previous lectures, DVDs and books. Hope those of you who got it discovered something useful. Good thoughts, Bob |

We filmed the download on Monday- the day after the lecture. On Tuesday night I did a public show at the Penguin studio. I included the name place routine and that portion of the show will also be included on the download.
Not sure when Penguin will release it, but I imagine it will be fairly soon. |

That's excellent Bob. I can't wait! Don't suppose the entire show will be released at some point? That would be a real education.
How about a download specifically for 4DT? |

I've covered 4DT very extensively in my books and in my previous lectures, as well as in my Mental Miracles DVD.

Well since I was 6 (33 years ago) Ive been to loads of typical magic lectures and have always enjoyed the more thoughtful lectures, like this one, more than the trick, explain, sell type. Too many people think that it's a good lecture if they leave knowing 20 new tricks (that they may never use)! So I think in some ways your right .........just the wrong way round. I think mentalists have higher expectations (on the whole that it is) sure loads of magicians are the same. And there is going to be mentalists who wanted more tricks too. But I think it's an ethos thing, a way of thinking. The mentalists I have been conversion with seem to have higher expectations rather than lower. But hey, we are all different. I love the lecture, loads to think a bout. |

Actual mentalists generally have higher expectations and expect lectures to be more than just "show and tell." They understand that the "why" is far more important than the "how." Don't get me wrong- good magicians understand that as well. But, sadly, they seem to be a dying breed. |

Dr. Bob, I just want to say Bravo to an excellent lecture. I watched it on my PS4 last night, and in homage to the wonderful Dr. Bob, I enjoyed the lecture with some rum and coke and a quarter pack of cigarettes. I so wanted to be there in person but I couldn't. So instead of an ice bucket challenge, I propose to you a Cassidy/Osterlind Live 2. Will you take the challenge? Haha.
When that lecture happens I will definitely be there in Columbus for that! |

Hi Mr Cassidy. I'm part way through the lecture and really enjoying it. However, the comments about Derren Brown and how he opens his shows are wrong (as far as I'm aware...you may have seen something different to me).
What he actually says, and has been saying for about as long as he's been on TV and touring is: "This program (show) fuses magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship. I achieve all the results you’ll see here through a varied mixture of those techniques. At no point are actors or stooges used in the show." That is far different to saying he uses his 5 senses to create a sixth (or whatever it was you said...sorry, I'm streaming it so can't go back and double check the words used as it screws up and I have to watch it from the start again) Might seem like a small point to some, but I thought it was important. I've had many, many conversations with people who are convinced what he does is completely real and he has powers others do not...even though he starts out saying what he says. Getting back to the lecture...it really is very cool. |

Carl- As I noted in the lecture, the "five senses used to create the illusion of a sixth" was a phrase coined by Ned Rutledge, not Derren Brown. I agree that Derren goes a lot farther than that. My main point was that since Derren became famous, most new mentalists seem to be taking the psychological approach, even though no one pays attention to disclaimers anyway.
Glad you're enjoying the lecture! Thanks for the nice comments. Good thoughts, Bob |

Ahhh...sorry, I guess I misheard that.
Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. Yeah...I'm enjoying it very much. I love hearing people talk magic or mentalism, to me it's often better than finding out how an effect is achieved as it gives me much more to think about. Annoyingly however...this is just another lecture that proves to me I need to stop being lazy...and learn a stack. Ha. Carl |

(If you look at the lengthy thread in the Penny Forum that was going on for months prior to the lecture, you'll see why we formatted the lecture the way we did.) So here is a free offer I just posted on Penguin. The deal is also good for anyone here who purchased the lecture and was disappointed that I didn't get to some things that was on my original set list. (Note that, in addition to the material we did cover, we were also dealing with a lot of questions from viewers that were being fed to us throughout the lecture. Most of them seemed to be from performing mentalists who are very interested in theory and generally agreed with us that its not HOW we do things that's most important, buy WHY we do them): Quote: I normally never respond to reviews and I apologize for being a bit short with those who were disappointed that I didn't cover certain items. I accept responsibility for that. We were also trying, though, to answer all of the questions that were being called in live during the lecture. |

I just want to know...WHO WON?
I have to know which of my two tee shirts to get rid of, the one with Bob's picture or the one with Richard's. |

So here's what I decided to do. Anyone (who purchased the lecture) can email me at bobcassidy@rocketmail.com and I will be happy to send you a complimentary copy of my 29 page eBook, "The Art of Mentalism 2." (Which later was included in "The Artful Mentalism of Bob Cassidy" in 2002) It includes complete performance details of my opener, my book test sequence, the name/place routine and my card memory act. You can't spell CLASS without CASSID-- er, wait... You can't spell CASSIDY without CLASS-- well, rats... They don't come classier than Bob Cassidy. There! |

I have not had a chance to watch the lecture yet. If I re-read pp. 9-41 of "The Artful Mentalism" before watching it, that will be bring me up to speed with the alleged omissions of the lecture? Thanks.

LOL! Yes- if you have a basic foundation in my material (and Richard's) you'll definitely get a lot more out of the lecture than those who don't,
It should be noted, though, that in forty years of lecturing I NEVER covered everything I intended to, even when I did a record eight hours at MindVention a couple of years ago. It ended up being in two parts. I got through the first four hours in 2011 and came back to finish it in 2012. I'm afraid there are still several hours left to go though, because people keep asking me questions. |
