I got to thinking about the Marvel Movie universe and started wondering what they will do when various actors retire from their recognized role. Will they replace them with a new actor playing the same part, will they retire the character, or will they have the character pass the mantle on to a new character (and actor)?
Personally, I think it unlikely that they have a new actor play the same character. It may happen occasionally, (like with The Hulk), but I don't think they will have a different actor play Ironman, Captain America, or Thor. I think it more likely that if any of those heroes continue, they will continue as a new character, like Bucky becoming Captain America, or a female becoming Thor. (Like the comics have done). What say you? |

I just read where The Black Widow is getting a movie finally. Hope that is true.
I think it would be better to have different characters play them as you suggest or bring in other heros entirely. There is a rich history to pull from.

In answer to Cliff, I know hardly anything about the Gentleman Ghost's nature so I cannot answer about his physical contact. Glad, though, that Cliff added the Shadow Thief. Because with the Shadow Thief, it has a plausible explanation with his special gloves, so he could exist as only a shadow in our world, while at the same time his physical body exists in an adjacent dimension. Under that condition, his shadow was not limited to being seen on just the ground or against a wall but could exist in mid-air.
I have his first appearance only, but have never seen the second appearance in the Hawkman magazine. To make up for that, I have the time he made a surprise appearance in the Justice League comic where he fought the Flash. This time,a new wrinkle was added because he could make Flash's own shadow attack The Flash. What the Flash did was vibrate so all the light would pass through him, thereby dissipating his shadow. I don't know if Cliff has that issue. He says he completed his Justice League collection, but I'm guessing he refers to just the 1960's. Whereas the aforesaid story I mentioned, appeared in the 1970s. If Cliff's collection is confined to just the 1960s, I certainly understand as most of the best stories came from that decade, what with Gardner Fox writing those issues. While we're at it about shadows, let me add another story by Gardner Fox. It was an Adam Strange story from Mystery in Space comics where the villain could make Adam's own shadow attack him. Maybe the writer of the Justice League story borrowed the shadow idea from the Adam Strange story. The difference is that in the Adam Strange story, each shadow could attack from only particular locations where the villain had set the traps. Each shadow would get animated when Adam happened to physically come near each trap, thereby triggering off the respective trap. I don't think Cliff has those Mystery in Space issues because I get the impression that he concentrated on just the Justice League. In that case,I'm sure he has the Justice League issue where Adam made a Guest-appearance. |

I used to like Adam Strange, but the Mystery in Space title was before I started collecting, so my experience with him is limited to his Justice League appearances and the odd reprint.
Ah, Gardner Fox. An incredibly 2-dimensional writer, but boy could he tell a good comic story. So, yes I remember the Adam Strange story JLA. There was one other Justice League story from late 70's I think that featured Mister Freeze, Captain Cold, and an old Wonder Woman foe Minister Blizzard. The Earth was being covered by ice and everyone was blaming the cold based villains. Turned out that it was The Shadow Thief all along and using his abilities opened up dimensions and was freezing the Earth. On the first read through, I missed the Shadow Thief's repeated image on the wall. second read it was obvious. Note: My JLA collection went from the first issue in 1961 to the mid 1990's. (I started reading/collecting comic books in 1973 and back collected the JLA as it was my favorite at the time.)

Recently, they announced a change in release dates for some of the upcoming X-Men related movies (the Marvel movies from 20th Century Fox).
http://collider.com/deadpool-2-new-mutan......se-date/ "Deadpool 2" got moved up by a couple of weeks. Now in May 2018, instead of early June. "X-Men: The Dark Phoenix" is still November 2018. "The New Mutants" got pushed back to February 2019. It was supposed to be released in April 2018. "Gambit" is supposed to be released in June 2019, but another director left the project just this week. From what I've read online, filming hadn't started yet for the project. More in the article I linked to. - Donald

Wow, that's a big change for New Mutants when it's already got teaser videos out of it. Wonder what happened with it. Gambit has had quite a troubled history also. Makes you wonder if it will ever actually make it out.

Anyone see the 1st episode of Black Lightning? I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who recorded it and have yet to watch, but I really liked the show. I am wonder, is this the first TV show to center on a minority family that is not a sit-com? Bill Cosby showed us a family 25 years ago or so, where Dad was a doctor and Mom was a lawyer, and while there were certainly some strong family value on that show, it was still at its' heart, a sit-com.
Here we see a real man, dealing with real inner city problems; mostly handling them well. With that at the heart of the show, I predict it will do well. Another nice point is that the protagonist is not a 20 something trying to balance super heroics against relationship issues. He is a 30 something professional trying to balance his life. I have high hopes.

I saw it, and liked it even though I never read the books.
It seems like it can be really good. The CW is doing a good job with the properties they have so far, imo.

Maybe we'll see Al Pacino as a villain in an upcoming Marvel movie. Apparently, he loved "Galaxy of the Gate", or something like that.

Now that Rockwall mentioned Al Pacino, I recall when some fans used to think that Al Pacino would have been ideal for the role of Wolverine. Of course that was many years ago, as Pacino is much too old now.
Another good one would have been Russell Johnson as the elastic Reed Richards. And how about the villainous Baron Mordo played by John Colicos? Facially it's so striking a resemblance. Even his voice too, or at least how I myself imagined his voice would sound like when I used to read the series. |

He would have made a HORRIBLE Wolverine even when he was the right age.

Colicos would have been as perfect for Mordo as Cumberbatch was for Dr. Strange.

A new trailer is out for "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (release date is July 6/18 in North America).
There are also trailers out right now for "Black Panther" (release date is February 16/18 in North America) and "Avengers: Infinity War" (release date is May 4/18 in North America). - Donald

I like DC. I have been a DC fan since 1973.
Honestly I think they are cheating. Barely two weeks before Antman blew up to giant size in Civil War, Ray palmer grew to giant size on DC legends of tomorrow. Now in the new Antman and the Wasp trailer, Michael Douglas shrinks a building. This week on The Flash, the villain shrank a building. Does DC get the movies scripts and then jump the gun?

Yesterday I tried watching Batman vs. Superman on HBO (which we get for free for a month for some reason).
I started falling asleep. |

S2000 - yeah, that film sucked. You can't beat the MCU, both films and TV, for supers. DCU has fallen way behind now . Oh well. Batman is better as a TV show, imho.
