At this past weekend's box-office, Marvel's Venom did much better than predicted, at $90 million domestic. Not only that, but it also exceeded the original 2018's opening of $80 million, amazing for a sequel to best its first chapter's grosses during a pandemic.

I'm not a comics guy but I found this interesting: DC Comics reveals latest Superman as bisexual in new issue.

I did see that as well Authur. So contradictory to every past Superman movie with Louis Lane. The States are trying so hard to push "The Woke" culture. I have no issue with a super hero being bisexual, none at all. I do have issues with trying to make one of the most admired Super Heroes ever portrayed that he was (is) Bisexual. Just horrible and nonsensical. They did that with Loki but that wasn't after YEARS of him being portrayed heterosexual which I see no problem with at all. But to all of a sudden to say Superman is bisexual! I say kiss off, Superman in my kids eyes will NEVER be bisexual. Again, as a disclaimer, I have no issues with people choices, NONE, as I have acquaintances I know through my acting and theater days who are gay or bi sexual and they are great people that have no issue with people who are heterosexual. This is just some crazy times were are starting to live through and it's only just the beginning.

Interesting that Kryptonian biology would allow for any sexual preference with human beings to begin with.

They have gone down this road with Robin in the comics. Tim Drake I guess is bisexual. Aqualad, Batwoman, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy even the Amazons are said to find satisfaction in each other. Alan Scott the Green Lantern is an openly gay businessman.

I am not trying to belittle your point. But to be fair this is Superboy turning into Superman. No Lois Lane involved.

This may not have much to do with movies at all I don’t know. But it is a development of Jon Kent, not Clark Kent.

By the way this is a short list of the more known characters.

Okay but did they have to go with the stereotypes? Pink hair? ( calling Mrs. Slocombe! Smile )

Krypton, being a fictional world, may have its own traditions for gender roles and preferences. Smile

About the Amazons, Watchers, or Felix the Cat... no idea. Smile

Comic books have a long tradition of addressing things before they are comfortable and ready to be discussed in more realistic and open forums.

In the 1960's Wonder Woman was talking about women's lib.
In the 70's Roy (speedy) Harper became a drug addict, shooting heroin. We openly saw the needle in his arm in one scene.
In the mid 70's Lois Lane drove a car with an air bag feature. This was years before they became standard equipment.
Later Hank Pym became a spouse abuser.
etc.

The point is that comic books are the perfect place to breech such issues as it can always be said, hey it's a comic book, it is not real.

The Green Lantern/Green Arrow issues were not Neal Adams' best idea. This while teachers in social studies claimed south American countries exported coffee and bananas. Smile

The Amazon isle being all female slides by as ancient Greek mythology. Why? To start with the focus is put on Diana being created from clay and magic. The rest of the population ... not a thought given. What do the Watchers watch? Are they all male?

When the reader is old enough to start asking the questions - the adults are attentive enough to start directing the reader toward more suitable entertainment. Tom Sawyer to start. Huck Finn if swearing and race are questions. Catcher in the Rye and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are there waiting on the shelf. There are fine comics with stories and characters dealing with adult matters.

Back to SuperSon's boyfriend. Pink Hair? Didn't we have enough of that back when folks complained about the picture of a stereotypical chinaman in the fantasy illustration from "And to Think that I saw it on Mulberry Street" (Doctor Seuss book) https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/o......nese-man

BTW Philip K. Dick wrote an apropos story, The Golden Man, which folks might like. Smile

9/11 with that iconic picture of Spider-Man don’t forget.

Tony Stark with booze. MANY of them are drug abusers of some sort.

Yep you are indeed right. The. “Issues” may have changed but the desire to deal with them hasn’t.

Marvel did pretty well with the December 2001 items https://www.marvel.com/articles/comics/m......-11-2001 The Alex Ross paintings made TV news.

Addressing the issue(s)... Frank Miller tried in 2006: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Terror_(graphic_novel)

Which is unfortunate as he has done well with other issues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Give_Me_Liberty
and that was not so long after the general comic market welcomed this story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ballad_of_Halo_Jones

Still, 2021 and "superson" finds a boyfriend with pink hair? That's playing to stereotypes. Brave and Bold would be having the character deal with the issue himself and explore what makes him happy.

I wish comics were accepted as that place. At the time of EC Comics it was for a while. But then the ‘comics code’ and our parent’s version of woke brought political correctness. Archie may love both Betty and Veronica, but Betty and Veronica have to keep their relationship quiet.

It took until the late 1980s for comics to successfully sell stories outside the CC guidelines. There are stories which explore heroics outside the comics code. Cory Doctorow wrote one where a superpowered hero overstepped his role and had to pay a great price.

The House of Mystery and House of Secrets are still standing.

The walls of copyright and woke-CC worries constrain comicbook storytelling, especially using the corporate logo characters. That’s not a what-if or elseworlds but a business decision.

Oh Yuck on a bicycle built for two.

The big bad on season 8 of The Flash will be Despero. This guy premiered in Justice League of America #1. He is red skinned, has 3 eyes and a reptilian like flap of skin surrounding his head. He will be played by Scottsman Tony Curran. Nice costume, but no make up at all! Feh!
