Yea Sups and Adam seems just so boring to me. You are doubling down on the eternal problem with Supy. You now have two essentially indestructible characters that can’t really be in peril and it just becomes eternal violence. Nobody can write a compelling story for this. Stan Lee himself spoke of this conundrum with the Hulk.

Many compelling stories have been written about them in different mediums.

It isn't always about their destruction, it is also about the ones they care about. Especially with Supes.

Not really. It is difficult to put them in any danger or anyone they care about. Omnipotent is a heck of a super power.

Name a compelling Superman movie for me. Or for that matter one that didn’t involve violence as a solution for the ending.

Several new trailers released today at Brazil Comic Con (CCXP)...

Including "Guardians of Galaxy Vol 3":

And "The Legacy of Ant-Man" (promotion for "Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania"):

- Donald

P.S. A couple of other trailers I saw online today were for "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts".

P.P.S. Did anyone catch that Mark Hamill made an un-credited cameo in "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special"? I didn't catch it while watching it the first time, but found out about it while watching a YouTube video talking about Easter Eggs in the Holiday Special. Supposedly as a nod at the (infamous) Star Wars Holiday Special.

"Legacy of the Ant Man" Let me say something to you. Another lifetime ago, I spent a year in the Mighty Marvel Mailroom. A great time, marred by two problems which I won't go into, one of the jobs they gave me was to take a package to ABC-TV. I come out with this largeish package, go to the elevator, and out of the elevator comes Stan Lee, with several of what I have to assume were ABC-TV execs. He looks at me in my jeans and black "MARVEL" t-shirt and says; "Hey. I like that shirt."

I go to ABC, they give me a pass and I'm taken to a board room where I set up the props for a proposed "Ant Man" television series. (You didn't miss it. It was never picked up.) As I finish up and am heading out, Stan walks into the board room with the same guys from the Marvel elevator, looks at me and says; "Hey! I like that shirt." (Gee. I guess I made a serious impression on you about thirty minutes ago!)

(If I told this story on this thread already, I apologize for repeating myself.)

I only got thru half of the last THE BATMAN movie. I couldn't hear the dialogue no matter how high I turned the volume up. I had no idea what the heck was going on, and I've been a Batman fan for over 50 years! Truth be told, the only Batman movie I enjoyed was 1989's BATMAN.

I've just started watching BTAS from 1992. I never watched it the first time around. Pretty good so far after 4 episodes.

The comic books rule!

I was thinking about this, and isn't it actually the DCEU Fans that are so upset with James Gunn for the changes he's making to the DC Universe? Sure, they want to have a tantrum and take it out on his Marvel movie(s) and DC projects... and the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is his next "public" venture that could be financially impacted (maybe or maybe not). But it's all about how they feel about DC movies / continuity.

BTW, James Gunn officially responded to these haters / toxic fans, and the level of their outcry. Here's one video that talks about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh56W4ZSbjI

(Quick point, this actually IS Will Friedle and Kevin Conroy doing this!)

I think the superhero cycle/craze might be played out for big screen "spectacles" no matter who does them. Certainly DC rebooting everything repeatedly is not a good way to handle iconic properties.

Apparently Michael rosenbaum has asked James gunn to cast him as
Lex Luther in the superman movie he's writing, does anyone think
that gunn will do the wise thing and cast him?

As much as I love Henry Cavill as Supes, I think a total reboot is a good thing for DC.

Start from scratch with younger actors with a cohesive storyline that links everyone in DC properly.

The Rock has actually said that there is a chance that the multiverse (via Flashpoint or whatever) can bring all the previous characters back together in the future.

At least that's what I think. Smile

Thanks.

I just started STAS as well. That's streaming on HBO/MAX, too.

In the comics, too.

I justed started renewing my interest in comics. Last time I bought comics regularly was in the 80s. I did buy the last issue of "The Death of Superman" back in the early 90s for giggles, though.

So, I'm buying trades on the cheap -- "Greatest Stories Ever Told", some Miller Daredevil, stuff like that. I already had some "Greatest Stories" trades I bought back in the 80s.

Doing research, it seems DC has rebooted several times in the comics. Very confusing. I was buying a lot of Batman after the mid-80s reboot, though I wasn't aware of that whole "Crisis on Infinite Earths" stuff. And they didn't call it a reboot back then. Now I hear about post-crisis, New 52, etc. I'm focusing on pre-90s Batman, Flash, Superman, Daredevil, and Spiderman for now.

If you're looking for good batman stories - check out Planetary/Batman Night on Earth, some of the Elseworlds stories such as The Doom that came to Gotham, or The Dark Knight Returns and Dark Knight: Master Race. For Superman check out Jack Kirby's run on Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, or All Star Superman, or the Alan Moore Last Superman story Smile This material is twenty years+ old.

DC Comics has plenty of "A" material to bring to the movie theater. From the worlds visited in Swamp Thing, Kirby's Fourth World, The Dreaming... In comics Batman has met Grendel and also Judge Dredd. Twice. Then there's the Legion of Super Heroes in the far future... So much to enjoy.

Some decent writers have explored the emotional realities that come with the capes - including Cory Doctorow whose last collection of stories included a socially conscious take on what could happen if Superman stopped a police officer from brutally beating up a protester at a march. He gets warned that his "whiteness" is conditional on not imposing "rightness". Smile Alan Moore took on "Captain Marvel" -> Marvelman and showed some possible consequences of super citizens. Alan Moore left that story after the world was rebuilt. Neil Gaiman is exploring some new mythology in that world in "The Golden Age" and ... comes January "The Silver Age". The property is now Marvel's and it's strange that movie options are not discussed.

Consider if you will, the irony here of watching movies adapt stories which are older than the intended audience. It's about like magicians publishing tricks with cigarettes and top hats.

So, how are folks enjoying The Doom Patrol (season 4 now)?
