You may have called it better than me Danny. Reviews coming in have not been great. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 35% That's BAD.
Here'e one of the bad review comments: "No major blockbuster in years has been this incoherently structured, this seemingly uninterested in telling a story with clarity and purpose." I'm still going but my expectations have been way lowered. |

Learned a long time ago not to base my expectations on reviews. I often disagree with professional movie reviewers, at least on the subject of whether I liked it or not. Deadpool was a prime example. I could give a long winded laundry list of what was wrong with that movie. I still liked it, and wow is it a money maker.
I think many people try to judge superhero and action movies the same way they judge dramas, and that just does not work. I will go see the film Sunday. My only expectation will be to have a good time.

Yes my only fear is how tough it really is to write for Sups.
I like the choice for Lex Luthor. Often he is a deep voiced sort of hard ass. I am looking forward to this portrayal. The villains often make these movies for me as I said. I am a sucker for a Batman movie. I really am. I will probably see this a couple times in the movies even if it is bad. I also enjoy the entire movie experience. Not a big fan of watching them at home. Heres hoping!

Yep- reviews in, and it's a stinker.
The DC view of their grimdark universe simply isn't compatible with a hero like Superman. In the comic world, he is, generally, a beacon of hope in the darkness, someone for humanity to aspire towards. It's the main reason why the first of the new Superman movies failed, and they double down in this one. Marvel gets it- their characters have a sense of the absurdity of all of that and roll with it. As Hawkeye said in Avengers: Age of Ultron- "Hey! Look at me! It's your fault, it's everyone's fault, who cares? Are you up for this? Are you? [Wanda stares blankly] Look, I just need to know 'cause, uh, the city is, is flying... Okay, look, the city is flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow; None of this makes sense. [takes out an Ultron drone] But I'm going back out there 'cause it's my job. Okay? And I can't do my job and babysit. Doesn't matter what you did, or what you were. If you go out there, you fight, and you fight to kill. Stay in here, you're good. I'll send your brother to come find you. But if you step out that door … you are an Avenger." Source- https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Avengers:_......Dialogue

Saw it last night. It is very ponderous and oh soooooo serious. Everything in the movie is so *** serious: the dialogue, the colour scheme, the costumes, the music (duh duh, duhhhhhh! over and over and over).
Also, note to Zack Snyder et al: Superman is SUPERMAN, not (and I repeat NOT) "Space Jesus"!! Sean |

What a disappointment--so I agree with Sean. And I'm even surprised at my own comment because I began as a DC fan and have been a DC fan for most of my life, but it was the Marvel movies which made me gradually become more of a Marvel fan. As abysmal as the recent Fantastic-Four film was, even that one was better than Batman Vs. Superman.
Consequently, I feel hesitant about attending the upcoming Justice League movie. The only one I'll attend is The Flash because it was the Flash which began my hobby of comics collecting in the first place. Back in the 60s, I hardly bought the Fantastic Four comics, but the movies made me a fan, so much so that I even spent $39 for a hardback book of the FF. Normally, it would have cost close to $50, but the price was $39 as it was a promotional copy. |

I started out as a DC fan but it was Marvel comics in the mid-sixties that converted me and I've never thought there was much of a comparison since. (Not that DC doesn't put out the occasional good story.)

What's sad about Batman VS Superman is that the concept is based on probably one of the best DC stories ever put out.

Well I will say this. The weakest part of the movie was not Affleck as Batman.
It was not horrible and might be a good start to A Justice League movie. Sure it is easy to pick it apart but I have seen much worse from the genre. Luthor was an interesting take. More of .com billionaire take. Alfred was brilliant. I wish Mercy was developed more. As a superhero offering not bad. Not great mind you. But certainly ok.

Not with Batman v Superman. I didn't hate it - in fact, I liked Ben Affleck as Batman - but I saw a seven-minute extended preview of the new Captain America movie and it had more heart, better character development, and was just more enjoyable than the two and a half hour movie. And I really wanted to love Batman v Superman.

Saw it with my wife. We both really liked it. It's certainly not as fun as the Marvel movies and really dark. However, as I said before, that may not be all bad. They differentiate themselves from Marvel that way. No where near as big a disaster as FF was last summer. I thought they were surprisingly faithful to parts of the source material from both Dark Knight and Doomsday. I'm excited to see what they do with Justice League. And I absolutely loved Wonder Woman.

Whilst the Dark Knght Returns graphic novel is the basis of this story, the thing that's forgotten is that Batman was never trying to kill Superman in that story, he was teaching him a lesson for being a government stooge. And it was a "what if" kind of story that was set in the future.
This film makes the mistake of taking that potential future reality and making it real now, with all its inherent misery. And hey, people are entitled to tell their kind of story, but is this really a decent foundation for the Justice League...it feels like most of the characters should be on the phone to the Samaritans rather than out fighting crime. What amazes me is how they can get such iconic characters so wrong when you see what has been done with Captain America. There was a truth, justice and the American way character that in theory shouldn't have worked but has, big time. And with no need to change his fundamental character. Why they couldn't do the same with Supes is beyond me. |

I don't think they changed Superman so much as they changed the world around him.
