Yea there is a fantastic take on Aquaman when they finally did the physics on him. A scene where he is explaining how fast he is and how strong he has to be just to live where he does. I think the exact quote was something like "and that is at preasures that would crush you, imagine how fast I am up here!"

Then they give him a hook, long hair and new attitude. If they go that directing with him he will not be that boring superfriends orange and green suit Aquaman.

Yes the change in the charecters to facilitate easy movie writing can be bothersome. I mean when it is absolute core charecter stuff, not the color of MJ'S hair in Spiderman.

This reminds me- there's a video series on YouTube called "ScrewAttack! Deathbattle" that deserves a watch. Though I should caution it contains language that is frequently NSFW, and quite a bit of snark that might be, at first glance, rather offputting. It pits two characters from different franchises- frequently character analogs- against each other. The first part individually looks at each character, going over their background and powers (very helpful for those unfamiliar with the characters,) then they get an animator to have the two duke it out, then, finally, they go over why the winner would be victorious, using physics and science to make their case.

Notable ones include Iron Man vs Lex Luthor (in his battle suit), but the most to-point ones for this thread are Superman vs. Son Goku (from Dragonball Z) and the Goku vs Supes rematch. Do a search on youtube, you should find them. Long, but totally worth it.

I just went to see this again. I still liked it. Affleck does a fine job!

Rockwall I have to say you were right sir! I actually think they might be on a good path for a Justice League movie. I am hopeful.

It is considerably darker than even Deadpool.

Sometimes it feels like they've removed the innocent colorful joy out of the superman story. And likewise the inspiring determination to directly and thoughtfully address wrongs in Batman. Instead we get overexposed glare and a dark world of obsessed madmen.

They just had early screenings of Captain America: Civil War and critic reactions have been very good. Here are a couple without giving anything away. (It seems like they screened this earlier than they normally would which I think indicates high confidence in the movie.)

Mike Sampson of ScreenCrush wrote:

“Captain America: Civil War is so good, it’s a better Avengers movie than the last Avengers movie. I’m trying not to talk about Civil War by comparing it to BvS, but it’s hard. It succeeds because it's exactly what that film is not: FUN. The big battle scene in Civil War is an absolute blast. Spider-Man, as you'd expect, steals the show. Ant-Man, as you might not, a close 2nd. Civil War and BvS tackle some of the same themes and have similar beats, yet Cap works because we know and care about these characters.”

Germain Lussier, who writes for Gizmodo and io9, said:

“Captain America: Civil War is a complex mystery posing a big, fun superhero film. Lots of themes and emotions. Very unexpected & VERY good. I honestly don't know how Civil War works. There's so much going on but it does. Spidey is AMAZING. Made me smile & laugh till my face hurt. I'll also admit, after 1 viewing, I have some small issues with the film. I'm guessing they'll shrink after a 2nd viewing to unpack them tho. I could go on all night with this but one last thing. The airport scene in Civil War is probably the best superhero action scene ever.”

It is almost unfair to compare the two because the charecters in Civil War have been developing for a long time. Just Tasha and Tony Stark have been in what at least 4 other full length movies? Cap in several and so forth. Batman vs Superman is the start almost. I know there are lead ins but nowhere near the material leading to Civil War.

Surprising about the forthcoming Doctor Strange movie is that the Ancient One will be portrayed by a lady-actress. Is it going to be a Gender-Bender like those aliens in Star Trek, namely the Talosians, which are made to look Male but are actually played by Females? Or, on the other hand, will the Ancient One be shown as an actual Female? Whatever the case, I look forward to attending the premiere.

Thanks for your answer, rockwall. Not only Dr. Strange but also Dr. Fate is popular again as Dr. Fate has a current mini-series. It's amazing the number of different people who have taken over Dr. Fate's identity and helmet ever since Kent Nelson died.
Lots of fans like to discuss as to who is more powerful, Dr. Strange or Dr. Fate. Seems that since Dr. Fate is made of pure energy that he would be more powerful than Steven who uses incantations. (Although I like both characters.)

This is a little off topic, but is Marvel related ...

I saw a curious thing in my 'local' national newspaper today ... apparently the billionaire CEO of Marvel Entertainment is harassing a lowly multi-millionaire neighbour of his. No point in posting the link as it is behind a pay wall, but I'll cut and paste some related excerpts from other sites so you can get the gist of the story:

"Isaac Perlmutter, the billionaire chief executive of Marvel Entertainment, has been accused with his wife of sending over a thousand anonymous and libelous letters claiming that a neighbor murdered two people and raped a child. The true motive for the letters appears to be driving Harold Peerenboom out of their gated community in Palm Beach, Florida. One letter stated, 'Today I write you to warn you about Harold Peerenboom of 8 Sloans Curve Road who is a sexual predator.'"

"The dispute appears to have begun with a homeowner's association fight over a local tennis pro. Karen D. Donnelly runs the tennis complex in the Sloans Curve community where both men live. Peerenboom called her contract with the neighborhood illegal bid rigging, the deal was reworked and Perlmutter paid for Donnelly to sue Peerenboom, accusing him of libel. The anonymous letter writer sent one batch to inmates of state and federal prisons insulting them on stationary made to look like it came from Peerenboom."

"Perlmutter has long been a subject of fascination in the media business. Little is known about the reclusive 73-year-old Israeli-American businessman, who sold Marvel to Disney for $4 billion (U.S.) in 2009. The last public photograph of Perlmutter was taken in 1985. He has never given an interview to the media while running Marvel, despite the Disney unit's influence over American entertainment with its Iron Man, Captain America and XMen franchises."

Not saying Perlmutter is guilty, but the story I read today notes that Marvel's Perlmutter offered Peerenboom $100 million to drop his defamation lawsuit!

In this case, Canadian national. So I meant 'local' in international terms. Smile

It is not a made up term, but local national (LN) is usually applied to people and not newspapers.

Orville_Smith- have you checked out "The Flash" tv show? The second season is better than the first, fixes some of the problems the first season had with Flash forgetting how he could actually use his powers.

Yes,I enjoy the Flash tv show. What I found interesting is when Flash recently guest-starred on the Supergirl show and she did NOT know anything about the Flash. Then it was seen that this Supergirl is on a totally different Earth in another universe where there is NO Flash. Evidently, the tv shows are reviving the 1960s concept of Parallel Earths. I know that the Barry Allen Flash was on Earth One and the Jay Garrick Flash was on Earth Two but I don't know the numerical-designation for the current one.

If they start numbering the universes... a crisis crossover event as per the comics back around 1990?

Re: The Flash TV show, and the idea that Supergirl hadn't heard of The Flash (and vice versa)

These articles shed some light on some other characters from DC / the Arrowverse (TV's Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and others) exist out there, and what evidence there might be to support it.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/articl......e-cameos (Feb. 9/2016)

http://www.comicbookresources.com/articl......eo-flash (different article, also from Feb. 9/16)

Someone really did their homework.

Here's something interesting - From what I understand from what I've read, the Flash character from the 1990s TV show exists in one of the earths (see the article). So not only does John Wesley Shipp play Barry's father in the current series, but they also showed him from when he played "The Flash" / Barry Allen on TV back in the 1990s (see the article).

There seems to some kind of connection between the two series (on screen), because they had Mark Hamill reprise his Trixter role on the current Flash TV show. He's played that character in both series.

P.S. If I recall correctly, when The Flash was on Supergirl, he never did meet J'onn J'onzz (Martian Manhunter) or Superman. So, we still don't know if those characters also exist on The Flash's earth, or just on Supergirl's earth.

I'm really looking forward to seeing "Captain America: Civil War". I think there might have been some foreshadowing of something that happens in the movie, on this week's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (I thought that Coulson's new toy was a foreshadowing element). They have tied the TV show into the MCU movies before.

I remember when "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" came out. I watched it on opening weekend, and it's a good thing, too. On "AoS", the week before everything was all S.H.I.E.L.D., and the week after the movie, the shake up about Hydra was introduced. It flowed around the things in the movie.

I recall something similar happening with "Avengers: Age of Ultron", and the TV show mentioning elements from the movie.

They've had Nick Fury & Maria Hill on "AoS" before, and a couple of other characters seen in the movies (like Lady Sif from the Thor movies).

I think the premiere for the new Captain America movie was yesterday (April 29th) in the UK, but not until May 6th here in North America. Has anyone seen the movie yet?
