Murphy's is offering this as a $7 download: http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/-p-19316.html#.VA-PBvb3LFk. Anyone buy this yet? This is a reworking of the "w*ther" vanish by Apollo Robbins, and I'm curious to know if this is any easier than Apollo's version and whether it as clean as it looks in the video. The ad references a m**cle pass, but pass to where! (That was rhetorical, folks. Not asking for a big reveal here.) Also, it looks very angle sensitive, or am I wrong?
Thanks, Méliès |

Looks cool but it seems to only be a vanish, not a routine
as to the question on the *MP the description (on MJM ) only makes a reference to a specific *JWMP (whatever that is) may get this just to satisfy my curiosity.

I got this one, is a bit angle sensitive and rather difficult sleight to excute, to be able to vanish the coin like what Eric did in the video takes balls, especially in the real life performace. I wouldn't dare to try that even if I practice it for hundred of times, However, if I happan to have a shirt with Pxxxt, this would be my go to vanish when perform with one on one, and yes, it does look as clean as in the video if the sleight is proper excute

I purchased this download and never thought to use the grip in that manner before. Its similar to another type of vanish that uses the same area of the body too. I agree with Morris that the vanish is very clean at the right angles.

Are the angles as good as (or as bad as) Alchemy ? That was by Ben Seidman I think. Both seemed to have some similarity

Hi all,
So I picked this up and thought I'd share my thoughts on it. Hopefully it'll help clarify some of the questions above. If not, let me know and I'll do my best to clarify. I should admit that I rarely give a review of anything I purchase in magic, but I feel justified in giving my thoughts on Evanesce. To be honest, there are few things released in magic these days that get me excited to break out my coins (or cards… or anything really). Whenever Eric Jones releases something to the community I get really excited. When it comes to his releases I know that I’m getting a quality product for a great cost and receiving something that is very well thought out and constructed. And even something that might make me work a bit for the magic. Evanesce’s outward effect is a very clean and complete coin vanish. At which point you can end, or you can reproduce in a number of ways. When I first saw the trailer it blew me away and I knew I wanted to add this into my repertoire. I thought it would fit great into a three coin vanish routine of mine. With that said, I knew that there would be some potential angle issues, but I thought it would be worth it given the cleanliness of the vanish itself. Eric does a great job speaking towards the inspirations and credits that came before him as it relates to his work in this download. He also says up front that this is something that you’re only going to be able to do for a few people. There are certain angle issues, but nothing that can’t be taken into consideration. Just like we block our magical moments this is something that you will need to take time with to get down smoothly and to ensure you don’t flash. Also, Eric goes over everything you need to know in order to make the move look good, besides the practice… you’re going to have to add that yourself. Further, the download is all self-contained; everything you need to know is included. Although I will admit some things are glanced over quickly largely because the source material should be in every serious coin worker’s library. Eric also goes into detail on how to make the move surefire, as angle proof as possible, and great ways to end completely clean or to reproduce the coin is a variety of different ways. Now, for the downsides… This is really only going to be good for a few people. You’re not going to be doing this for crowds of people on the street. If you’re a stroller or table-hopper like I am, you might be able to get away with it in those situations, but you’re not going to get away with it at every table and working it all out might be more work than it’s worth… for me, it’s worth it. Your own performing judgment will have to lead you in those situations. This is also something that’s going to take some work to achieve. For me it was pretty easy to accomplish, but I’m biased since I was familiar with some of the work from a number of years ago (and I still can’t believe it fooled me when I watched the trailer). With that said, as I mentioned above, Eric gives a number of ways to make everything as surefire as possible. Overall, this is a great download with a lot packed into the short playing time. When you think about it, the download is not just the effect itself, but a number of tools that can be applied to other effects within your repertoire. The asking price is small compared to the enjoyment you’ll get working on it (it’s fun!) as well as the reactions you’ll get when you share it with your audiences. Just my two cents worth... |
