I would be just as outraged, (faux or not), if said teacher was teaching that in the classroom.

A fine example of somebunall, criticized by other Tea Partiers (members of a national group).

The point is that there is NO comparison between the DNC and Tea Party groups. Even at a state level. Can you point to even a single instance of billboards comparing Bush to Hitler being paid for by ANY state Democratic party?

Seems like you a making a false equivalency.

Further, I don't think that the Obama/Hitler comparisons were racist at all. The witchdoctor poster, though- that's another story and that was clearly racist and clearly supported by MANY tea party groups. You know, the same ones who claimed that the watermelons on the White House lawn photos were just good fun.

That's funny...it seems to me that you are. You stated that "the Tea Party" made such a comparison. A billboard put up by "the Tea Party of North Iowa" doesn't justify that claim.

The point you're missing is that there IS NO monolithic Tea Party as you seem to be assuming. But, again, unless you can provide examples of the same thing being done by the DNC or state Democratic parties, it is a false equivalency nonetheless.

Not wanting to let the teacher in the OP off the hook, you guys have piqued my curiosity. I googled

Comparison Obama Hitler: 1,020,000 hits

Comparison Bush Hitler: 539,000 hits (and that's two candidate Bushes)

Comparison Clinton Hitler: 868,000 hits (probably two Clintons)

Comparison Roosevelt Hitler: 565,000 hits

As I said earlier. Good grief!

Here's a nice little article from FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting) from 2010. FWIW I like FAIR. Playing the Nazi Card

It's interesting that "FAIR" opted not to use a single example of a liberal candidate or media personality making a Hitler comparison to a conservative. They covered Bush, Reagan, Levin, Limbaugh, Beck... You can't say it's because he was talking about Obama, because he drew out to reference Reagan.

My guess it was topical in 2010. It may also be the case that the mainstream media (of which FAIR is a self-appointed watchdog) really was that one-sided at the time. You'd have to do some digging to see if any of those mainstream sources were comparing anyone else to Hitler. I suspect that 1) their sample is pretty reasonable, and 2) the sitting president is the most likely target of unfair comparison at any time.

That's not my guess when they eschew innumerable examples where Bush (2 years out of office) was compared to Hitler, and instead choose to use a comparison by a Republican (Reagan) to Kennedy (almost 5 decades dead). Somehow it strikes me that Bush would have been a little more topical than Kennedy in 2010.

Do you have examples where the mainstream press compared Bush to Hitler?

My recollection is that the popular comparison for Bush in the media was to a monkey or chimp, rather than to Hitler. I checked, many more 'comparison monkey' hits for Bush than for Obama.

How many times was Bush compared to a racist stereotype as Obama has been?
