Hey guys,
So I just got this new small release pdf from Fraser Parker. If you enjoy Peters thinking, then you will also enjoy Frasers. Fraser has taken an already existing idea from Peter, and streamlined it. You can reveal Pin codes, telephone numbers, bank cards, etc etc. I will say this....I already perform Peters version, but I will also have this version to interchange between the two at any given time. The routine and method may seem complicated at first, but once you wrap your head around it, and understand it, it becomes really easy, and you start to laugh at the brilliance of the method employed, and how it will just fly by your spectators. This is something that you can do on the fly with no props, hence the name, with nothing more than just you and your spectator. For the price of 20GBPs, this is a no brainer, it is relatively worth this and more.....for those of you that do not have Peters work on the subject or have read some of his work, you will certainly have an alternative here for one piece with Frasers thinking....... This is so awesome that Peter develops a method, then Fraser streamlines it, then Peter again continues to develop another method within the method......great, just great.... Looking forward to receiving the When in Rome notes from Peter, and if you are a fan of Fraser Parkers, you know most of his releases from True Mysteries 1 & 2, and his recent AKKADIAN Deck, I believe that this billet-less pin reveal works, not only because you get inside your spectators head, but also because you don't need to have them write anything down, and can do this naked if you so wish. Food for thought. You can find out more info here http://www.fraserparker.co.uk/utsukushii.htm Thanks Alex Alejandro Click here to view attached image.

The recent experiments in the area of billet-less name, pin and word reveals have been some of the most exciting developments in close-up, informal mentalism. I look forward to reading more about this effect.

Hey Alex,
I also use Pete's version and have another 2 ways to find out what number from 1 to 10 someone is thinking of. how long does the process last before you know the number using Utsukushii ? Thanks Sylar |

Hi everyone,
I send these out manually for each order, so please give up to 12 hours - so that I am still able to sleep . I can usually get these out right away but am not always at my computer (i'm updating my website with this disclaimer, to avoid any confusion in the future ) There is really very little process in terms of obtaining the number that the pin reveal is based on, it involves you having them add two digits together twice and that's it! you know the number . However, the way this is hidden and the way the routine is structured makes this one of the cleanest and fairest looking number guesses available (outside of using p** f****s), in my opinion. Yes, it is possible to use this in other languages as it is really the addition and clever use of an old f***e that makes this work. Those I have shown this too love it! and say they would have no idea how I could guess their number, if I hadn't showed it to them. I am really pleased with how natural this looks. Yours, Fraser. |

I bought this directly from Fraser and I read through it as soon as he emailed me the manuscript. Just a disclaimer, I do not know Fraser and this is my first exposure to his work. Anyhow, here are my thoughts on Utsukushii:
----- As other have mentioned, this is based on a very old concept mixed with a relatively newer one. Fraser has taken this concept and added more subterfuge to help hide what today, many would have found obvious or a mere mathematical puzzle. I want to make it clear as per the ad, this manuscript details two things: 1) "[A] sure fire way to guess a single digit number someone is only thinking of, without anything having to be written down or props of any kind." 2) "It [the thought of single digit] can then be used to work out other numbers such as [PIN] codes, phone locks and entire phone numbers." Let me address the first point. Yes, you are able to know for a fact what single digit number someone is thinking of. And yes, it will change from person to person. And yes, there is a process involved. Ad-wise, it is true. The process is where the debate will happen, I presume. It does involve maths. But nothing like take this number, double it, add x, subtract another, bla bla bla. No, not even close to this. The maths is very simple and more importantly justified (presentation-wise). As for the second point major point as per the ad, yes, you can use that number to work out other numbers. Of course, "work out" is again, a process. So what do I think of Utsukushii? Personally, I found a hidden gem in the first part of the routine. I love it. Knowing the single digit number is a great ploy. It opens up tons of possibilities. It works in every language. It is completely impromptu and requires nothing more than words and minds. The method is well hidden and hard to backtrack. Yes, it will depend on how well one presents it. Of course, one can take away all of its power and present like a mathematical puzzle. I already found ways to incorporate this into stage/parlor situations to make it bigger. Fraser does not go into that. His manuscript is strictly, know the number, know the PIN. Regarding PIN reveals, I am not crazy about them. The method Fraser uses is great and works well. But I have other plans in mind. As for price, I agree that it should have been lower. Of course, the creator is entitled to price their creations and products at what they see fit and I happily paid for it in full. I feel a 20 USD (12 GBP) price tag is more appropriate as opposed to 33 USD (20 GBP). This is what I would have priced and by no means this takes away from what you get. Overall, this is a solid routine if you choose to do the whole thing as per the manuscript. It is also a solid utility device for using in other routines. Pros: - Impromptu - Propless - Works in any language - Adaptable to many presentations - Can be done in any situation (close up, parlor, stage, over the phone, skype, etc...) - Routine hides subterfuge beautifully - Utility (abstract) device to be used in other routines - Establishes a great personal connection (you are revealing PIN which is very personal) - Manuscript provides a script and nice psychological touches that can be used in other routines to enhance them Cons: - Like any billetless routine, the only confirmation lies in the head of the spectator (choose them wisely) - Cannot be performed for family and friends - Cannot be repeated with the same person (not that you want to but it is a limitation) - this runs a bit deeper than what it appears to be but I do not want to reveal much since it borders on exposure. Suffice it to say, one has be cautious of who they are performing to Points to consider: (can be pros or cons depending on the performer) - Uses numbers and requires maths - Requires a bit of memorization - Best suited for one-on-one situations (or at least done to one person in the group at a time) - doing it with multiple people is possible but not recommended (I already worked out approaches to that) - Price What I wanted to see in the manuscript that is not there: - More ideas with the streamlined handling of the first point - More practice examples (I am referring to a specific section in the manuscript - there was not any example) Overall: I will give this a 8/10 --- If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to PM me. |

I got a copy of Utsukishii to review from Fraser.
This is Fraser's method to discover someone's PIN number. To be more exact, this is Fraser's way to know a single digit number that someone is just thinking of. I believe this is an amazing discovery. This is based off of an old number force. This force used to be completely unheard of, but in modern times, it is kind of being brought back and being used in more routines. However, this is completely different than the force because you don't force a number! The number thought of by the spectator is genuinely a random number and genuinely personal and genuinely different each and every time you perform it. This is why Fraser has dubbed this "Force/Nonforce." The method is very solid. It uses no psychological forces. It works 100% of the time. The method is also extremely well hidden. I know that if Fraser had performed this on me, I wouldn't have been able to understand how he knew my number. (Even though I'm very familiar with the force it is based off of.) This is for two reasons: 1) He has broken the force up into two -seemingly unrelated- parts. 2) He has eliminated half of the work. There IS math involved, but only very basic single digit addition. I usually don't like math magic. But this definitely isn't math magic. It isn't a "process" of various adding/multiplying/subtracting. Rather, it's a logical way to get a single digit number that is personal to them. I love the thinking behind it. I still have no idea how Fraser thought to use the old force in this way. Fraser teaches how to use this principle along with a Michael Murray principle to determine a spectators PIN number. (This routine inspire Peter Turner's famous PIN routine.) This will work great with a PIN revelation, but I think it could be taken even farther than that. You could use it have someone think of a letter of the alphabet, or even a certain item from a list. In this way, you could force literally anything. A name, object, ANYTHING. The great thing is, this uses no props. It's all done with your words. The only think I don't like about this is because of the method, you couldn't really perform this for family or friends. It would have to be someone you don't know too well. But over all, I like it! I give it 9/10! To order, contact Fraser Parker! You can go to his site, or Pablo Amira's, or contact him on Facebook. |

Without exposing too much here, I just thought that you could perform this for friends/family if you have them think of someone they are close to.

I forgot to put this in my latest release “Utsukushii” and have sent it to all previous customers but their are a few copies I sent for review to my friends on here, so want to post it here as I think it is important to be aware of the moral implications when revealing such personal information as a pin numbers - this will be going in all subsequent versions of the manuscript.
“Disclaimer: Revealing a spectator’s personal pin number openly during a performance creates a great risk to the spectator, in terms of security and the potential this creates for theft (for instance, once others know this information, it instantly puts your spectator at risk and opens them up to the possibility of having certain items of theirs stolen and or identity fraud committed in their name, electronically). I am therefore warning you not to use the following method for revealing actual pin numbers belonging to those who you perform for but to have the spectator make up a pin number instead whilst also being clear to everyone watching that this is the case. You may think that I am over stressing this point but this did in fact happen. - not to me, I would like to add but to someone who will remain nameless who didn’t consider his own responsibility in performance - a lady’s bank card he had revealed the pin number to was stolen out of her hand bag. This could have ended a lot worse with a threat of physical violence after the show. I hope you see now why it is important to be responsible with what we chose to perform and not perform. I instead, use the following principles to unlock a spectator’s phone. This to me is not only better theatrically but is also much safer, as it allows the person who took part to instantly change their pin lock to their phone straight after you have performed the effect. With this in mind, let’s get to the work that makes this possible.” Yours, Fraser. |

Agreed. Used this last night out at the bar on a random person and have never received a stronger reaction from a pin reveal. This thing is dangerous. Use it wisely.

I see the "good review" thread has mysteriously made its way to the top of the page. If we're switching over here I'll repost my original review from the other thread, for balance.
This effect uses a combination of a very old force and a more recent principle to determine a participant's PIN code without the need for anything to be written down. I have been very excited by developments over the last decade in propless techniques to divine names, words and numbers but, for me, the success or failure of such techniques relies on how much process is involved. By the time you have revealed the participant's PIN number in this effect, you will have taken them through a LOT of process! Personally, I find that smart spectator's can be wary of anything involving numbers. As soon as you ask someone to start adding numbers together they think you are doing math magic. They may not know how you did it exactly, but they will suspect something (too many people have been exposed to magic that involves counting cards or "cereal-box" forces that revolve around the number 9). Therefore the method you are using has to be well hidden within the routine. I actually think the principle is much more cunningly hidden in the original force than in Fraser's variation. Unfortunately, this cannot be performed as written on anyone in your family or for your friends, which I would imagine may be a major drawback for many potential purchasers. It would be possible to vary the presentation to allow you to present it to friends and family without too much of a loss in logic as the two halves of the routine have no real logical connection to begin with. The ebook is well presented but rather confusingly written. There is a numerical typo at one point that could throw you seriously off track. But once you have figured out what is going on, it is relatively straight forward maths-wise for both you and the participant. If you are a collector of billet-less reveals it would be worthwhile adding this to your collection but I feel this is seriously overpriced. When one considers the quality of work someone like Matt Mello releases for $5 a time, $30 or so for this is stretching it. I would think this would have made a solid $5 effect. All of the above is only my personal opinion. I did not get a free copy of this for review and paid full price. Nor do I know the creator either in person or via Skype. |

Hey I just wanted to say I don't really personally agree with pricing Mentalism effects at $5, sorry, but even though that may be Matt's choice (and I have read several of his great ideas), I think that shouldn't really become a standard for today's effects.
I would be happy to even pay a lot more than $5 for some of Matt's amazing ideas, but I don't feel like Fraser (or any other author) should feel forced to price theirs for less just because of this reason. The author is the one that decides this, if the material is underpriced of overpriced - let performers decide it based on how much they like the idea and actually use it in the real world. I know Fraser is a great thinker and I respect him, even if we've had our differences in the past I know he's a clever fella and wish him success. With all respect this is just my 2c, Andreu. |
