Whom would you say was a better performer (notice I did not say magician) over the course of their ENTIRE career, Harry Houdini or David Copperfiled? But before you respond, please base it ONLY on the following criteria...
*Tools, Knowledge, and Resources available in those time periods *Showmanship *Creativity *Deceptiveness *Connection with their audience Now thay you made your choice, why (be descriptive)? |

Having never seen each perform it is impossible to answer.
When a legend or a fantasy is compared to reality the fantasy always wins. Ask the question once David has been dead for 80 years.

Agree with Danny. There's no way to accurately assess Houdini compared with Copperfield. We weren't there.

Well after reading way too many books on Houdini and actually seeing Copperfield perform I would say they both win. They both excelled in showmanship, creativity, deceptiveness and they connected with their audience and being from different time periods it think it would be impossible to compare.

I think Harry had more showmanship and could hold attention longer.

Houdini was a genius at marketing himself. Considering the time period.

I gave up watching reruns of "Storage Wars" to watch the rap battle and go down the rabbit hole with the "Behind the Scenes" videos.

By sheer volume David Copperfield has entertained millions of more people than Houdini could have imagined. He's won 21 Emmy's for TV performances and entertained for the last 15 years at the MGM 7 nights a week (With a few vacation days) ...15 shows a week for thousands of people.
Copperfields showmanship is basically perfect. The effects are stunning. He emotionally connects with the audience. He is creative and as deceptive as you can get. In all honesty he rules Vegas! He has sold over 40 MILLION tickets in his lifetime so far. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Copp......sionist) I've never see Harry, but I'm a huge fan. His Escapoloy was ingenious, but you want us to compare on an entertainment basis so I will. People often wondered if Harry might actually "DIE" during his performances. This adds a very different quality to the "Entertainment".. Something that David Copperfield has never been inclined to do IMHO ( I could have missed something). Unfortunately many things that Houdini did he actually didn't do Not in a magical way... it seems that some of these escapes "Didn't really Happen" or were hoaxed. But this story isn't over yet. I think that David Copperfield will soon begin the Greatest Magic Tour of all time, and there will be no question at all after that.

At one point Harry was probably the famous person on the planet. Prior to mass media. Look how long he has been dead and people Still know the name and profession legend.
You simply can't compare.

During his lifetime he was quite famous. No doubt. But keep your delusions going. It is what you seem to cling to.
