Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I drink before a show sometimes not because I have a show, I do it with the same frequency as I have a drink socially. If I fancy it I'll have a beer or glass of wine while socialising or whatever. But I don't agree that any person should or should not drink before a show. Im a big boy, if I want a drink cos I'm socialising with guests or just fancy a glass of wine with dinner I wont ever think 'I shouldn't cos I have a show'.

If anyone's performance would be adversely affected by having a drink, then clearly it would be ill advised to have one. If your audience's perception of you would be adversely affected by seeing you drink or smelling the drink, then again it would be ill advised. Same for the person who booked you, including your agent.
If any of the above are likely, then you have a drink knowing full well that it may affect future bookings. The only thing that matters is the above, which is dependent on your physical make up, the type of shows you do, your stage persona, etc. Nothing else matters and no one else's opinion on here affects any of the decisions. As a matter of interest I make the same decision when deciding whether to eat food with garlic in; I do this out of respect for the audience member helping, plus I have seen the reaction that one close friend (who had been for a curry with me the night before) got in his stage show when he spoke to a spectator! But that may be another issue altogether. Know the risks, including the commercial ones, then make your bed and lie in it. |

It's far worse to eat a can of beans before a show.

All if us are getting Thai food in Vegas and hopefully Bob will be there too. Let's paid up on the curry, garlic, and we will surely all have a gas at Mindvention!

Or garlic and onions. Unless, it's a magic show that requires no talking

Try taking a Xanax. Does the same thing...no smell on your breath.

Nothing but strong Starbuck's for me prior to the show. I have a hard enough time remembering everything
