What type of equipment do you guys use to cue your music and effects during your shows?

I am not a fan of effects during a hypnosis show. I think it takes away from the performance.
But for music I recommend the following. http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-MediaRemot......=satechi It will remotely work through the Bluetooth on your smart phone I or android. Hook the phone through the sound board and there ya go. It is about 30 feet only. I have a small mixing board I put into the stage snake at theaters and run the microphone and phone through it. This will also isolate you from the main board to avoid power spikes. If you have your show down to an order this is about as easy as it can get without needing someone to hear cues.

I use neither music nor effects generally. If I do use music I will nod to the DJ or technician, or have my iphone connected by wire to the sound desk. Keep it simple.

I use win amp on a laptop with large print so I can see the track on the side of the stage and a powerpoint remote much like what danny showed it is: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Powerpoin......r+remote
Works great and allows me to see the sound that is going to be played. I did have to set hotkeys on winamp for the remote control buttons. It is easy and makes it look much bette than being beside your music effects. I have four buttons set up play/pause go down track list, go up track list and stop music. It has been flawless for me and I get about 60 feet out of it maximum and on my screen I can see the track list from a long distance. Jesse

You may like to have a look at this new remote called the Cesaral MicAdd:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCNdFVjRc8Y http://cesaral.com/shop/en/home/60-cesaral-micadd.html It can be easily attached to any microphone. With this remote you can manage hundreds of sound effects in a very easy way, and in real time. I hope it helps Cesar Alonso (Cesaral Magic) www.cesaral.com |

Hey thanks guys! This has been a lot of help! I've been testing out the Winamp method, it seems to be what I need. I have purchased a Satechi. I love it! Except does anybody know how I can remap its keys? Also, I'll check out the soundman thing ThatHypGuy. I love the look of the MicAdd, but right now it's simply out of my price range. Thanks guys for all the help!

I have the technicians in the theatre do all the music cues, they have a sheet that cues them for the music and lights.

1. Start up Winamp, go to Preferences 2. On the left, select Global Hotkeys and turn on Global Hotkeys. 3. Make sure the following 'Action's are listed: "Playback: Play/pause", "Playback: Stop", "Playback: Previous in play list" and "Playback: Next in play list". 4. Bind those four to some non-conflicting keys (pick one and press the button you want to use for it- I think) 5. Close Preferences, close Winamp. 6. Restart winamp 7. Load playlist and test keys. By effects do you just mean lights, or do some performers use more elaborate effects? Even extensive lighting would seem to detract from the performance.

No. By effects I meant sound FX (small snippets) vs songs (several minutes). Sorry for the confusion. Also, I tried remapping my remote, and it doesn't recognize most of my buttons. I think I may need to get a regular old poweroint remote instead.

Get a Bluetooth Audio Receiver and connect it to the PA.
Put your music/fx on your smartphone. Pair the phone with the receiver (usually good up to 10m away.) Use your phone's media player app to control the audio. |

I saw that after I had posted!
Then I looked again and realised that the device I am suggesting actually works the other way around Danny. It is the Bluetooth Audio Receiver which you connect to the sound board, not the phone. You use your phone as the remote. Reg http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0......cs%2C479 Quote:

I have used an Iomega Screenplay media player with a USB stick plugged in and (blindly) its infra-red remote for years.
The advantage of using a Bluetooth Receiver and using your phone as the controller is that you immediately have a visual on track names etc. |

Isn't using your phone to trigger it bulky?

That's what I would think. I would love to have something that I could either attatch to the microphone or put on my belt or something. I have a handheld mic. I feel like it would be awkward to be holding both a mic and a remote, having both hands full. Sure, I could put the remote away when I'm not using it, but it still seems like it would be awkward.
Also, this is a little bit off track, but does any body have any other ways of seeing your cues before hand, besides the Winamp method? |

Not with the two phones I've tried: iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy pocket.
But I'm not 100% convinced I'll switch from my Screenplay for good yet. However, I am playing with the alternatives, looking for a replacement technology. It's not every gig that I remote control my own sound and I'm finding nothing is completely without issues. My infra-red remotes need a sightline and close distance. Bluetooth does drop the pairing from time to time, which is why I prefer to have the smart end of the device ready in my hand! But I guess even a sound tech with a cue sheet is prone to human error sometimes. Even a well-rehearsed one. |

I do my own cues s six nights a week. The tech works and works reliably.
It is small enough to attach to a microphone or even better keep in your pocket. It is quite unobtrusive. It can easily attach to a belt. Why would you need to see them ahead of time?

I suppose I wouldn't need to. I should know my show inside and out.
