I really appreciate everyone who has bought and supported the magazine. It was you that helped keep it going for so long.
We toyed with the idea of a printed version but as everyone who read the magazine knows, we had a lot fantastic artwork and design and to print this would have made the magaxine expensive. We are working on a new form of the magazine which I hope you will all enjoy. |

There are many expensive books out there in Magic Collections. For very good
reasons. Maybe expensive is the way to go to keep it out of the wrong hands. One might think twice about sharing expensive secrets with others that have not paid a pricey price. |

People will still share expensive stuff. I can guarantee you that all these 'exclusive' ebooks that sell for hundreds of dollars are passed around amongst friends. The people forwarding them and uploading them are obviously people that bought them from Dan and I and I even put a request/plea in a few issues asking people not to do this otherwise we couldn't continue. It still happened. I do feel for those that paid for it and supported us but they were turning up on sharing sites all the time and even saw one in China which was selling a zip file of every issue for $2.
We can't prove it but there was a person who wanted to buy all the issues at once and asked for them to be sent as a zip file. People take their time out to do this for them and it ends up there!!??? The internet makes things accessible and easy to distribute but with human nature being what it is, it often gets abused. We're not accepting contributions at the moment, George as the media we will be using is quite different from the old magazine but may do in the future. |

Sad news... Here is a way to beat the Pirates... Upload the magazine for free and ask for the money as a donation... I would bet that everyone who paid before would still pay (I know I would) everyone who got it for free would at least see the adverts.
Add add a link for a special gift in each issue (maybe a story or effect which didn't make it into the current issue), those that didn't buy the mag will send you their email and you can target them for a donation... Look at it as a loss leader for your other work... As always, just my point of view... Old habits die hard... The future no longer belongs to us... As you so rightly infer, we have to adapt, 'cos the old days are gone...

I think that's a great idea Tim, I for one would be happy to donate.

It's an idea Tim as I don't think it would work. Yes, more people would read it but the majority would download it for free and not donate.
Both Dan and I are very busy with various things and it wouldn't be worth our while. Sadly the copies that have appeared on file sharing sites must have, at one point, originated from members of our community who bought it from us. It's no longer practical or viable for us to continue in this form but we will have an exciting announcement soon. |

Paul Voodini did a pay what you want experiment. I don't think it showed much for the human race.

I am very confused. Must be all the embalming fumes.
"However, all is not lost. Freddie and I have put a lot of effort in the magazine over the years so we are just going to migrate to another format that can't be pirated and best of all it will be free! More news to follow so watch this space." You are upset because people are sharing your magazine freely (I understand that)and going to go to the trouble and expense of changing the format to a non-pirated-able one and give it away for free (I don't understand this. Guess only a magician can make that work.) I do have a similar problem and maybe your solution will work for me. I bury them and others keep digging them up and moving them around. As the man who bought watermelons for a dollar and sold them for a dollar said, "Ain't made any money all day. Guess I need a bigger truck." I will be watching for updates. Good luck on your new endeavor.

Thank you. It's a radically different form of MM which will be revealed soon. I hope everyone enjoys it.
Producing a magazine such as MM is very time consuming and the new format is a different kind of media completely. |

The mystery has us all wondering. The improbable possibilities include Egyptian hieroglyphs, cave painting, morse code, semaphore, telegraph wire, smoke signals, code talkers, enigma, purple, messages in bottles, word of mouth, the bat signal, good year blimp, time square banner, ticker tape machine, gramophone recording, town crier, sky writing, tea leaves, engraving, woodblock prints, and my favorite, a singing telegram. Please tell us it will be the latter, that would be so cool.
Have I missed any?

The best way to keep it from being ripped off is to only offer it in printed magazine format. Anything digital is unsecure and easily crackable. Printing it means them scanning it and that is a lot of work. Monotonous work is the biggest deterent to piracy imo.
...or add code to each digital file that can identify its original purchaser. |
