I've read Reality is Plastic and would really like to try to hypnotize for my first time. I'm confident, have a script down, have a few suggestibility tests ready, and am not afraid of failure. My question is where did you all start practicing/experimenting. I would NEVER do this at a paid gig to experiment. This has been a personal interest of mine for a while. Any advice you can give for a first timer would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Don't try it on close friends or family.

Better on people younger than you and who look up to you. Smile

When you get proper training practicing on subjects is regularly part of it. I agree, never even attempt it on family and friends, for many reasons.

Where did I start? Bulyea Bar, 30 people attended I got a couple with Ronnings EKG and never stopped. My performance experience before that consisted of "christmas concerts" as a child!. I did about 15 shows with nothing more than reading the Ronning Guide to hypnosis, they were not horrible! (I made door on the very first one)

I have went on and been performing since 2007 and never stopped went full time 2008. Advice on performing hypnosis well you said you have a script that's good but the world is not scripted, so prepare as much as possible before hand. Think of the 50000 things that can go wrong and then practice how you would deal with them! Yes I said PRACTICE!

How do you practice without subjects to start? Well just like my four year old daughter does "pretend". Pretend it goes good, pretend it goes bad, pretend a rabid monkey attacks during the performance. think of possible situations and practice!

My next thought for you comes in the form of a question! Where are you planning on taking this? Is it for ego gratification or to eventually expand the art and be a full time hypnotist?

Other advice,
-be you, don't try to be someone you are not that is a sure way to falure.
-Be confident, this is 99 percent of hypnosis
-represent the art well, dress well, be clean, and make friends

Since you spoke of RIP I would suggest looking into other books as well as videos as much as you can to get a feel of what it is you are truly trying to do, are you planning just to do "street/impromptu" hypnosis or are you planning on eventually moving to the stage scene?

Good thoughts
Jesse

I don't plan on doing street hypnosis. I plan on taking it to stage eventually. I have been doing mentalism a little over a year and love it. I switched over from magic. I've been performing as a close up magician for 15 years now. During that time, I've worked casinos, corporate events, trade shows, private events, etc. mentalism is still new, as I've only been doing it a bit more than a year, but I have performed several stand up mentalism shows as well. I would never do another stand up magic show.

I've always been interested in hypnosis and would eventually like to put together a show or even offer it as a second act to a mentalism show. My point is, I have performing experience under my belt and know how to work an audience. I think hypnosis is a fantastic skill that can really fit my personality. I am grateful for all of the advice given so far.

Very simple. Incorporate it into a mentalism effect. You can take it (the hypnosis) as far as you want and always have the effect to fall back on.

Perhaps you could create an event/meetup group and ask for volunteers, performing "tests" on subjects for experimental/entertaining/scientific purposes.

Great advice...particularly the confidence part. You have to convince yourself. It's really that simple. I would strongly recommend "The Trilby Connection." This is another wonderful Head Hacking product. Seeing the techniques was invaluable for my learning.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. I still haven't tried it yet. I'm kind of looking for the right time- at least a time it feels right to me.

That first time is so scaring, but just go out there and KNOW it will work.
