I've always thought Sankey's "Paper clipped" was killer, but I got this e-mail from Jay, and it's really got my interest. An improvement on "Paper clipped?"
I'm anxious to learn more. Here is the e-mail I got from Jay: I believe anything can be improved. Even when my life-long magic hero Paul Harris said, "Paperclipped is a rare and primordial piece of beauty that reflects the very essence of astonishment," I didn't stop believing my trick could be improved. But with my upcoming 'GRAND OPENING' release, have I really improved one of the most powerful and popular card tricks I've ever created? I'll leave it up to you to decide for yourself, but here are the facts... 1.'GRAND OPENING' features a specially-printed prop that makes it possible for you to add a NEW and visually stunning phase to your own performances of 'Paperclipped.' 2.This exciting new moment of magic happens just BEFORE you reveal the signed card, so the two impossible moments build beautifully on each other. 3.The 'GRAND OPENING' prop can be closely examined and is designed to replace the pre-folded card used in the original 'Paperclipped' trick. So you don't have to carry anything more than you already carry. 4.Printed on a thick vinyl plastic, the 'GRAND OPENING' prop is virtually indestructible. 5.The 'GRAND OPENING' presentation provides powerful new misdirection, and makes it even less likely that people will 'get ahead of you,' and guess the mind-blowing final climax with the signed card. 6.The eye-popping new phase is extremely EASY to do, and requires almost the exact same sleights as the original 'Paperclipped' handling. 7.'GRAND OPENING' includes a brand new tutorial video, including the secrets to the original 'Paperclipped' handling, plus Lou Johnson's 'Improved Mercury Fold,' and several BRAND NEW effects based on the original 'Paperclipped' routine. Put simply, 'GRAND OPENING' allows you to add MORE magic, and add MORE surprises, to your performances of 'Paperclipped,' without adding any more sleights, or requiring you to carry any more than you already do. That sure sounds like an 'improvement' to me. You'll be able to pre-order 'GRAND OPENING' later this week. Available EXCLUSIVELY through the SankeyMagic website.

"New phase" makes me think a color change happens. Perhaps the back changes color just before the paperclip comes off? Jay offers a few clues in the description.
Guess we'll know soon.. the demo video goes up tmw! |

Just now waking up and rubbing sleep out of my eyes, but it's now released and I'm going to watch the video and see what this puppy is all about. I hear it's only fifteen bucks.

I'm still in the dark. He says you can add a "shocking visual moment of magic", but unless I'm missing something, and hey I'm still waking up, he doesn't seem to tell what that is.

No, he doesn't mention what is shocking about what happens with the piece of plastic that looks like a folded card. I'd be interested to find out as I can't see it myself.

I might be pretty tempted to buy it if I just knew what the heck the effect is.

While I'm sure his teaching is top notch as usual.... was it necessary to include a specially made gimmick? can't this be made up in 10 seconds with some scissors and glue? not knowing what this is, there may be a reason it's made of that material, but that's my first reaction.

I'm pretty certain its just so you can show you have a folded blank card in your pocket on a paperclip, which then you can show magically morphs into their card

Good observation. But why make it out of plastic? Shoot, I could take a real blank card and do that.

I went ahead and ordered this. I have heard many of you on the Café sing the praises of "Paperclipped" over the years, and I've never been happy with my Mercury card fold. For $21.00 shipped to my door in the US, this sounds like a nice routine to learn, and I will finally get some quality instruction on the MCF.
Cheers, Sammy

You've heard right. Paper clipped is definitely top drawer. No joke. It's stood the proverbial test of time. But why $21.00? I understood it was like fifteen bucks.

If that is in fact what the premise is, wouldn't that scream switch?? The premise of paperclipped is that the card in the paperclip is and always has been their card. So a blank card opener seems like a step backwards to me.

What an unfortunate name for a town.

Yeah. Lol. Agreed. But the magic there is great. The town reminds me a bit of Mayberry.

I wouldn't mind having a go on Sankey's Grand Opening.
When the chips are down, the duvet is uncomfortable.
