I don't do "tricks." Tricks are for kids...

I don't understand the point of this question. For about the umpteenth million time- what is "best" in ANY situation depends completely on the performer, his skills, the type of audience, the presentation, the venue, etc. etc.
There is NO universal answer to questions like this. And besides, the premise is faulty. There is NOT just one mentalism effect (not trick) that is suitable for a group of people- there are hundreds of them. Why would you want to do what someone else is doing anyway? |

I think that the OP asked this not because he needs advice, but just because, just to know what the other professional performers do. Like and informational thing.

Ever- The point is that the "other professional performers" all would answer differently, if they chose to answer at all. And most would likely give the exact same answer I did.
This is, really, nothing more than another "What's your favorite trick?" thread. |

Okay- I capitulate. You've squeezed it out of me. The greatest effect of all time, bar none- The Pea Can! (With the Magic Dingo Dong and Dan Harlan's "Farttoon" as close runners up.)
Happy? Now that everyone will be doing that act, I have to change it again! Bummer. |

I'll also point out that PW is not an effect. Neither is CT or many other things people respond with when these questions come up. Sorry to be grumpy about it. But I think not recognizing that difference can hinder understanding what is the best thing to do at any given moment.
Just my opinion! |

I think its more about sizing up the group and deciding which effect out of the ones in your arsenal would be best suited for them, factors to take into account, Group size?, is it a group of 15+ people? Maybe doing something that gets everyone involved would be best, Group Age? is it a bunch of 12 years olds who your about to perform an intimate Q+A for about his lost dinosaur? and is does the Group contain skeptics or believers? if it has Skeptics you may want to do something more quick to establish repertoire, or if they already believe in you and what you do, maybe you perform something more intimate like a Bridge or a PK touch routine. I think every performer will have a few "Favorite" effects but no one will have a "Best" effect that they would say is "Best" for any generic group. There are many contributing factors that go into every performance and I think those who are best at gauging there audience and performing accordingly are those who excel the most.

The Pea Can in a bar environment is pretty darn good!

Your response says more about you than him; a sensible answer (like Bob Freakin Cassidy's first post) may actually help him develop. |

Roylan-
I thought Magical Dimensions was (jokingly, I hope) calling ME a troll, not the OP. |
