I read an article recently about the terrible STAR but great verbal reviews of magic apps. Apparently magicians liked to keep the Apps secret, thus bad reviews to hide results and discourage sales, but are willing to gush in verbal reviews that can't be searched.

Is this a common magician tactic, just modernized?

Please don't give bad reviews ......period. Unless you are truly unhappy with your purchase, discouraging sales really hurts the developers. And we need them to keep up with all the great innovative material.

Read this article from David Pogue of the New York Times about my app iForce:

P.S. Almost all of my apps have fake one star reviews that say "I don't want anyone else to have it"!!

That may have been the article...pretty sure it was about iForce or something very similar though.
Clever concept; good luck.

It's like hipsters not telling anyone where they buy their retro-Nikes (psst...West-side Goodwill).
