The Paralabs Depicting Thoughts cards have been out for some time and, a little while after they were produced, Alexander Schelle compiled a set of picture postcards based on the original Depicting Thought set. As I wanted something visual and that might introduce a conversational element into what I do, I recently obtained a set of these postcards.
As you would expect from Paralabs, the cards are of superb quality, are colourful and visually appealing. On Wednesday I used them for the first time and, following a recommendation in the accompanying booklet, did not so much divine the image but the memory the image provoked. It produced a fantastic response, not only from the person who had taken the card (which was of a horse) but of several others who also saw the horse and were reminded of their love of riding etc. Following this, I will be using these cards on a regular basis. They are certainly nicely different from the norm. In addition to the booklet you receive two sets of 50 postcards. They are not marked and it is literally a case of learning the order - that is if you want a totally free selection. However, thanks to the learning suggestions (and if you know Depicting Thoughts, the original set and postcards are linked,) it is not too hard a task. If wanting something a little bit different and which resonates with spectators, then these picture postcards are well worth considering. |

Thanks for your review. I hoped to check them out, and maybe buy a set, at the recent Mindvention, but none of the vendors were featuring them. Based on your assessment, I may spring for them. George |

I've had my eye on these for so long. I have their Sense and Meaning lecture notes, which they discuss The Depicting Thought cards in. I would however, love to know more. Different presentations/ideas that they could be used for.

I think these postcards are probably best described as an attractive mind reading tool. They are just what they are - colourful postcards - and they can be handled and examined and nothing untoward will be found, because there is nothing to be found. All that is required is some memory work.
They can be used and introduced in virtually any setting, whether stage, in a parlour situation or in the home. When you want something to show, you can just bring these postcards out and away you go. And there are no awkward moves involved either, because none are needed. The cards could be used to prompt memories, to divine images or, if you are artistic, to reproduce the picture. They offer plenty of scope and as I found, resonated well with audience members. This is simple and direct and with nothing suspect to discover. But you will need to put in a bit of time familiarising yourself with the cards. |

These post cards are colorful and fun to look at.
While I'm an advocate for the plf picture cards, these post cards are gorgeous and fit in a suit pocket nicely. I'm not so sure I'd always use all 50 but there is always a time and a place huh?

Learning the stack is a really good and satisfying mental exercise. I now have the cards always on my desk and cut them several times a day for practice and to keep 'the little grey cells ticking over.' As I have mentioned before, with nothing suspicious or to get caught out on, these postcards are an absolutely superb tool to amaze minds and display your talents.

I go over the stack every night before I go to sleep. The postcard stack is somewhat different then the picture cards. In so much as some of the postcards don't have specific photos relating to the picture stack. As an example postcard 46 is of an ice-cream sundae and 47 is of brass lamp that looks like it from Aladdin. But I prefer these photos you can really elaborate on the reveals.

Link both!
Use your former list and link the postcards to what you already memorized. This will speed things up anyway. |

Thanks Thomas.. Actually I have learnt the new list and can use it as well as my old list.. I was worried that having two I would confuse them but for some reason found the one supplied with the postcards surprisingly easy to memorise.. Whether this was because I already do a lot of memory based things or not I don't know but I am thinking of combining it with Tele-Foto. Although that means using both lists if I can do it without confusion it will give me 100 object/photos to play with.

Ok, I have a few more questions before I make the purchase. I'm debating between the Postcards and the Depicting Thoughts Set.
1. I noticed that it says each of these comes with 2 sets (decks). Are the sets EXACTLY the same (back design)...or is one blue and the other white like the ESP decks? My idea is to have 2 identical sets, let the spectator mix and shuffle one of them, then switch in the stacked deck and "memorize" it. A memory demonstration essentially, but the decks would both need to be the same. 2. Is the Depicting Thoughts cards the same size as Paralabs ESP cards? How much smaller bigger is the Postcards? The postcards are standard postcard size 4x6 with a white back..the set I got from Tannens just came with one set. The depicting thought decks also white backs but come in two deck sets at least the set I got did with white backs the size of playing cards.

I got the postcard directly from paralabs. I received 2 sets, both identical front and back. Also came with a 37 page colour booklet explaining everything.

I've got my creative head on now trying to think of a way of using the two systems I have together. I can use tele-foto and that worked well on the missus today, and if it gets past her I know it will be OK O:-)
