I purchased Richard's great DVD's and also recently attended a fabulous workshop that he gave. I plan to start using his card stack and am wondering if the republished e-book has additional information above what is on the DVDs. Specifically, does he explain a 'system' to set up the cards, short of starting at one card and simply searching through a shuffled deck to find the next card and continuing to search, one by one?
Thanks in advance. |

I'm not trying to come across as an ass, but...
Even with a "system" or even if all 52 cards were listed for you, you'd still have to start with one card and then search through the rest of the deck to find the next... and so on, until you were done. Osterlind provides you with a formula to do this, and so you can start anywhere. Vincent Mendoza |

You will not find any extra tricks in the e-book. Two good things with the e-book is that you will get the story about how he "found" the card system and the other good thing is a page where all the cards are printed in order.

With 'systems' like sy stebbins, you can set up the deck into suits and quickly set the deck. That is the type of setup system that I was looking for. Being such a random like order that the BCS achieves, I doubted that a setup system existed, but I was hoping.

The better you know the system, the faster you will set up the deck. At some point, you will be scared about how fast that will be.

The System allows you to determine the next card in the deck regardless the number of times it's cut. Now, within the context of tricks that could utilize that ability, it allows you to do some awfully amazing things. If what you want is a deck you can set up when you open a new pack of cards, well, again that depends. You could always have the e-book (or a printout) that would help you do that. In my opinion, Richard's System is well worth the effort. But, again, you probably need to identify what's more important to you and find the deck that suits your purposes. John LeBlanc Houston, TX |

Let me tell you how I set up a deck.
I spread the deck into 3 face up spreads across the top of a bed. (I usually am in a hotel room getting ready for a show!) This allows me to see all the faces of the the cards. Now I just pick up each card in rotation and place them face-up into my left hand. You will find that doing it this way also increases the speed at which you learn to compute cards. Give it a try that way! Richard |

I recently purchased the 20th Anniversary Edition of the OBCS, and it's worth every penny.
Richard explains how the system came to be, how it works, the setup, and hints. Added in this manuscript is three routines, and two bonus routines (one is for magicians only). I really like Mr. Osterlind's system. It works for me, and once you understand the mechanics behind it, you can perform it without thinking. P.S. Thanks, Richard, for your input. That was the kind of hint that I was looking for (a Duh kind of thing (why didn't I think of that?).
By the way, I used your challenge mind reading last night at dinner with some friends and my wife (using the BCS). When I repeated it and got my wife's card, even she (who is real skeptic) said that it was amazing. Thanks again. |
