I don't know why, but the pages in the Cafe are loading extremely slow for me. I have a cable modem and they are loading like I have a 28k telephone modem. It is the only website I am having a problem with. It has been like this ever since it came back.
You have any ideas?

Hi,
I'va got a very fast Internet connection over the network of my university and I've got the same problem too. The pages are loading slow. I think it has to do with the server, or not? Hannes |

From the other side of the coin, I have a very slow computer at home and haven't had any problems or slow loading situations. In fact, I think the pages load pretty fast compared to other sites I visit. Guess that puts a fly in the ointment as they say as the problem isn't across the board with every user.

Hmm... Today, the Cafe was loading within a couple seconds for me. It's never been that fast before. Yesterday it was slower than today, but no slower than it usually has been since we first opened it.
Please let me know if any of you continue to experience slow page loading on a regular basis. Periodic slower loading is, of course, to be expected, due to the nature of the internet. Mary |

I've got a DSL connection and it's very slow for me too. I've noticed it seems to get slower the more smilies get added; the text of a given page will load quickly, but then it sits there for a good while loading files like "donut.gif" and "surprise.gif". At the risk of heresy, any chance of adding the option to disable the smilies? Or maybe putting the reply screen with all the smilies on a different page than the messages themselves? For me the convenience of not having to wait for them all to load on every page would outweigh the inconvenience of having to hit a button to post a reply.
Quinn
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

The problem seems to have vanished. All of a sudden the pages are loading quickly again. Hey Mary, how did you do that?

Cardguy, I did nothing - as I said, it's just the nature of the internet. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes not.
Quinn, if you click the link to edit your preferences at the top of the page, you can select to "Always show clickable smilies near New Topic and Reply posting boxes:". Pick "No", and you won't have to wait for them to load when viewing messages. Mary |
