Does anyone have any recommendations for routines / stunts that the whole audience can participate in. In the past I have tried things like Magnetic Fingers, the hand clasp (twisting of hands like Copperfields) etc but recently saw a Penguin Live lecture with Eric Jones and within it he did a card trick where spectators are given cards, the cards are torn in half and then after a sequence of apparently random shuffling / throwing away pieces, each participant is left with only two pieces of card, both that match.
I have never really thought of doing a large scale card trick like that within a mentalism show but on the lecture Eric said he quite often tapes the cards under each persons seat before the performance and then introduces the trick half way through his act. Maybe this could be revamped as a type of influence experiment? Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks |

Psychological choices/forces can work well, as a way of 'transmitting' thoughts to the crowd.
James biss has a nice routine where the audience think of cards and shuffle themselves, can't think of what it is off the top of my head though! Simon |

Simon,
I think it's "The Card Trick That Isn't" from Messing With Minds. Regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin,
That's the one, thank you! It was bugging me. I'd recommend also reading Colin mcleods' pieces on the D*******r p**y, some great thinking that could be a culmination of involving the whole audience. Simon |

Thanks guys, I have played with the D P before, maybe worth some more thinking. Never heard of "The Card Trick That Isn't" but will look it up.

The effect you saw Eric Jones do belongs to Woody Aragon. Can be a blockbuster but you need pretty good audience management.

Following Eric Jones idea of taping the playing cards under the spectators chairs, tape a pen next to it and replace the playing cards with blank face playing cards or similar sized pieces of cardboard.
Now everyone can write a word on each of the cards. A touch I used recently with the Woody Aragon methodology. |

Mark Wilson's Bingo effect might be able to be worked in, tho its not a trick.

Yes gourmet, like the idea of people writing their own cards - brain is doing overtime now!
