I understand that this may not be the best forum to discuss this issue but I am interested in obtaining copies of the World's Greatest Magic Shows. I have seen snippets of the series(Bill Malone - Sam The Bellhop, Juan Tamariz - Card Car. etc) but I would really love to have a set of the whole series. The close-up work which I have seen on these shows is fantastic. Can anybody help? I am in the UK but I am prepared to talk to anybody who can help me. Waiting in anticipation for a response. Thanks.

I have all 3 recorded off of T.V. from years ago. The sound isn't all that great but it's still good enough to watch.

There were more than three. I have four, although the quality is sparse.

These on DVD would be aswesome. It was a great time for Magic. Bill Malone and David Williamson were incredible!

The (big) ones that I remember are: -Lance Burton's "Jaws of Death" escape -Franz Hararay's vanishing plane -What's-his-name's travelling accross the Grand Canyon trick. I don't recall the others but there were definitely five specials. We ARE talking about the ones with Mac King's School of Magic and Max Maven's "play along at home" mentalism, correct? They are on ABCFamily all the time. Just keep your eyes open at http://www.tvmagicguide.com to see when they're on. |

The last one was truly awful, but the series was marked by priceless appearances by Bill Malone, Michael Ammar, Juan Tamariz, Max Maven, Penn & Teller, Jeff McBride, Paul Gertner, David Williamson, Rene Levand, Mac King, Michael Finny, Guy Hollingworth (the first time I'd ever heard of him), Lance Burton and many others, enough to make it legendary.

So in stead of just talking, help the guy in the UK, use your computer to make a DVD and send it to him. I don't have the tape or computer, so isn't there a nice guy out there.

I have all 5 sets recorded over the past yrs when they aired it. Fotunately I transferred it over to VCDs that time when the quality is good. So it is now kept safely on my VCDs, all in excelent quality

I have transfered 3 of my WGM collection on DVD. I also made an interactive menu and quick scene access. I'm also planning to transfer the rest of my collection (magic shows from tv) to dvd format.

As incredible as it may seem (or not) I have never seen any of these.

Television stations keep master copies of everything they air. I've got a friend that wanted these really bad and contacted (ABC...I believe), paid what they wanted and they sent him beautiful copies of the masters. (I don't know how much he paid, or who he talked to at the network or what he said...sorry)
That was a little while back, so I don't know if they still do it, but for those that want a perfect copy you may want to send some emails and make some phone calls to see what you can work out with that t.v. network. |

I bought a box set of all 5 DVD's here in Shanghai. I have watched 3 of them and they are pretty good overall. I prefer to watch closeup magic versus stage magic, so I'd rather watch Bill Malone / Doc Eason / Jay Sankey on their own videos. It all depends what you like. For stage mostly material and some close-up, the subject videos are fine.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but don't copywrite laws and magical ethics come into play here? Why is it okay to burn a copy (not for your own personal use) of a television show but terrible to copy some fellow-magician's instructional video? Personally, I think both are wrong.
