A few years back I remember running across an article that mentioned something to the effect that Annemann was some how involved in the invention of the Rabbit Wringer. Does anyone know about this. Is it true or does anyone know who the wringer is credited to. Or has anyone else by chance remember reading the same article and can remind me were it was published. I am drawing a blank but for some reason I feel like it may have been in an old issue of Linking Ring. Any input on this in one way or the other would be most appreciated.
THOUGHTfully,

Page 404 of the Abrams Annemann book talks about a gag that Annemann claimed he had originated. He had a cardboard cut-out of a rabbit, and when the talk began of producing a rabbit, he would pull out the cut out and complain that he had left it in his suit while it was being pressed. But no actual appartaus as far as I can tell.

From Bart Whaley's The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Magic, 1584-1988 (1989, p. 284):
Quote:
Flat Rabbit
Invented as a strictly joke prop, by, of all people, American mentalist Theodore Annemann...
After selling it privately for over two years, Annemann commercially licensed it in 1939 to U.F. Grant who released it that year as "Flat Rabbit."
...
This tired gag was first adapted to a magic effect in 1942 by Audley Walsh with his "Rabbit Wringer."

I also have a letter in which Reeder Hutchinson draws his diagram and such for "Reeder's Rabbit Reducer", which he gave the rights to build to Horace Marshall.

"Two years and a half have passed since we originated a gag while on the 'hangover lap' between Miami and Havana. We sold it to Howard Brooks at the McFadden -Deauville, but now it is getting around so we'll put it on the record. Make up a funny-looking bunny rabbit out of cardboard, cover it with soft white cloth and hang it inside your coat. At any time, show a foulard or large silk, throw over your arm, and ask 'What would you like to see the magician produce?' 'Rabbit' is sure to come up. Dig around and get it. Pull cloth away, look startled, twist the rabbit around so all can see what just it is, and remark, in awed tones, 'I left him in the suit when I had it pressed!'" (Jinx # 57, June 1939)

"Even our flat rabbit 'gag' first printed in Jinx No. 57 and privately sold by us two years before to several performers hit the counters. Only one dealer had our permission to manufacture it for sale, U.F. Grant." (Jinx # 72, Dec. 1939)
