...This topic probably has been brought up in the past, but it's late here in North Carolina, and I don't have time to read 50 pages topics right now! Anyhoo..I have a C/Sr coin kinda just sitting around. I do some coin magic, mostly assemblies, and coins across routines. But my sad C/S coin just sits there collecting dust. I would love to hear about some of the tricks or routines that you all do using a C/S coin. Or if anyone can recommend a routine to me that is in print that would also be wonderful.
Thanks Your friendly neighborhood -Majikman- |

You came to the right place.
Check out Geoffry Latta's CopSilBrass routine in Coin Magic by Kaufman. It will become very clear what you can do with it. There are a couple of slights in that routine I'm not 100% proficient at so I've dumbed it down for my own use. It is very strong.. even my "... for sissies" version. Let me know if you don't have access to it and I might be able to get you started.

Many transpositions are available with this coin. You can do a great transposition which involves the Bobo Switch (a modern version is called Golden Girls, but that uses some other coins).

Thanks for the advice. I picked up a copy of Kam's Palms of steel vol. one...and am working though his New York Spellbound, but that is some knuckle busting stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love it...it's just really hard! Frank I work in my local magic shop on weekends, so I'll check on that book on Sat. and let you know if I can get my hands on a copy, I hope I can it sounds like just the book I need!
Thanks again everyone! Your friendly neighborhood -Maikman- |

The gaff is over five hundred years old, and applications can be found in that great moldy oldie..."Discoverie of Witchcraft" available in paperback from Dover Publications.
Curtis Kam has a couple of clever applications of the gaff in print. Scotty York and Geoff Latta explored the C/S/B effect using the thing. If you want to move ahead... there is a thing called a Sun and Moon gaff that allows some remarkable magic. Some in Bobo's and a great bit in the Kaps lecture notes.

Well for this coin a friend of mine taught me a two in the pocket one in the hand effect. I forget who's it was though. David Stone has a matrix with this and a copper/silver transpo on his Coin Magic vol. 2.

Too bad a quarter-size c/s was never made...at least I've never seen one, that would be handy...however,
HD/EP-size, and an Expanded *****...you kick it up to "miracle" class, if you play it right... Doug |

Johnson sold a quarter sized c/s using a half Penney. I got a couple in 'tails'. And that was twenty years ago. Later, sasco made a special order coin for me using a different foreign coin.
The quarter sized c/s and Chinatowns should still be available for the asking. At the time it was very tough to get an expanded quarter. Nice to see those available now.

Since you like assemblies, check out Derek Dingle's Four Way Backfire Assembly, which uses a C/S coin. You'll have fun with that one.

Groove!!! Sounds good guys.. Frank found me a copy of "Coin Magic" for me on Ebay so hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on that and get some Ideas. I also just bid on a Hard Cover "Modern Coin Magic" by Bobo...which I, somehow, passed over while learning the basics of magic. I'm told that they are not going to be printed in hard cover anymore, and that the paperbacks don't include everything that the Hard-boud editions did. So if there is anyone out there that doesn't have Bobo's Coin Magic in Hardback, try and get a hold of a copy before all the collecters do!!

Mark Jenest has a good routine on his video"Miracles While You Wait" that uses a C/S coin. I do it from time to time and it gets good reactions. It is also very easy for I am a card guy.

Roth also has some great effects in his Expert Coin Magic text. I consider this a MUST HAVE for anyone getting more serious about coins.

Yes, I believe so, it is on one of his videos as well. I have both so I'll check later this evening, and let you know. I am a huge fan of his material. I really love the way he thinks out all of his magic. Much like Dean Dill.

Definately take a look at the stuff in Expert Coin Magic. If you want a good Copper/Silver/Brass routine, and you don't mind getting it from England, get Bob kohler's lecture video from when he lectured at Ron MacMillan's convention in 2001. You might be able to get a copy from Bob himself, but I don't think he has it. Well worth a look.
