Hello! I am considering buying "Anthology" by Daniel Madison, "Strong Magic" by Darwin Ortiz, and "Cog" by Ben Seward. Has anyone read these books and can tell me whether or not they are wise purchases?

Are you strictly a card magician? If you are a beginner, Daniel Madison is not the ideal starting point for what I hope would be obvious reasons. That said, Daniel Madison's work is superb but that does not mean I would say it is "wise" for you to buy it. How much have you researched the Madison and Seward books? Only you can answer whether these are "wise" purchases for you, yes? The best we can do is comment on the quality of the works. As for Strong Magic, I CAN offer as David has, an unqualified YES because Strong Magic contains no tricks but what is DOES contain is FAR more valuable. Do you want to become a magician or do you want to just "do a few tricks?" Strong Magic in my opinion and I believe the opinion of MANY should be REQUIRED reading. Apologies Phantom In Red, but, I will not offer advice that is misleading no matter how much I respect an author. I suppose you might say that is my idea of wisdom. Get Strong Magic for sure and perhaps IT might offer you some answers. ![]() Best, Vlad |

After thinking about it some more, I agree with you that it would be very difficult for anyone to say whether or not the purchases would be "wise" for me personally, only I can do that based upon my skill level and my area of focus. I think what I really meant to ask was if anyone had read the books and could offer their opinions, and I have edited my original question accordingly. I will definitely buy Strong Magic, I thought it would be a good purchase, and I definitely agree that reading theory not just "tricks" is essential to really become a good magician, I just wasn't 100% sure and I wanted to get a trusted opinion before buying it. I might actually hold back on the Madison and Seward ones for a bit and just get Strong Magic. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my question and offer me your advice, I really do appreciate it! ![]() Phantom |

Vlad,
Ha! I am new to the forum, I didn't know you couldn't edit posts after a certain point so that's why I said I had edited it, because I was planning on it. Too bad, I thought that rewording it would have helped convey what I actually wanted to ask better. Phantom |
