I still have not gotten over my disappointment from the last 3 films.

I will see this like the rest. Love them all, however, really more excited about the new Jurassic World movie.

I'm excited. I saw a longer version that was leaked a few weeks ago and it looks awesome.

Well, I'm sure most, if not all of you have seen the new Star Wars trailer, so I won't bother with a link. The villain's lightsaber was cool looking with the addition of a cross-guard/quillons. I'm assuming it is actor Adam Driver holding that lightsaber since he is supposedly playing the primary villain in the film.
Prior to becoming an actor, Adam Driver was a US Marine: David

It looks like this character, played by actress Daisy Ridley, does not utilize a lightsaber, but rather a lightspear or lightstaff:

I am just hoping JJ Abrams does his usual excellent job. I got a little nervous seeing the cutesy little soccer ball droid, but I'm taking a wait and see attitude.
This fan art is funny though! The Sith Army Knife.

Star Wars trailer inspires fan parodies
The 88-second trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has amassed more than 40 million YouTube views in 72 hours. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30274348

As far as I'm concerned, the "expanded universe" should be destroyed and the sooner the better. Over blown fanfiction that did more to damage the Star Wars franchise than I, II and III put together.
What I am concerned about is the apparent return to the original story in a different form. The "Luke" character is a girl, there appears to be a new Emperor and a new Sith Lord on the rise and apparently the real Luke is going to fulfill the "Obi Wan" role. Chewbacca will probably be himself. I know Han Solo is going to make an appearance, but I imagine there'll be another "Han Solo" character introduced at some point.

Is the idea that the whole story will basically pull from the universe created by the movie franchise? If so it sort of makes sense right? Certainly will make it easier to follow.

I haven't heard any rumors of Luke being a girl (can't imagine that, being as how they have re-cast Mark for the role), but based on what I did read and what I remember from the Dark Horse Comics (based on the original scripts), I've got a pretty good idea of what they are going for here and think it is brilliant!
I don't want to say it in fear that I'm right and will ruin it for others. I would have prefered they stay true to the original scripts, don't see the need to go changing it now. Even with changes, many of the elements of it must remain (ie: the Emperor being cloned). The one thing I am disappointed in is hearing there will be a Rebel Alliance, as I would expect the Republic to re-formed after Return of the Jedi. -JoeJoe
