So I am doing my show last night and get to the end. Doing the post hypnotic that everyone has seen me post with the volunteer screaming"he's great" from their seats.
The volunteer happened to be fairly well known and I ended up with a bit that was even funnier. Some guests recognized her and wanted pictures with her. Every time they got set I said the trigger and she would scream he's great and the picture would be ruined. I had no idea this was happening! But it was funny as could be. In truth while she was on stage I had no idea she was well known I was more worried about the show. She was quite gracious and the people she was with were also fantastic. Just a funny story.

I love it.
Often, when those bits you couldn't possibly have planned for happen, they are the funniest. |

A couple of years ago I had a girl supposedly on the beach in a deck chair relaxing in the sun... I then told her to she was now dreaming about doing her favorite thing.. Usually a big naughty smile and expression comes over their face but this one got up from the chair crouched forwards and started jumping all over the place pushing me back wards. I asked her what she was doing she said "playing rugby"...

So I am doing my show last night and the following happened.
Prefaced with I work often at family resorts. I absolutely do not allow under 18 on stage. Just poor optics in my opinion. Don't want to argue the point that is another thread. After the show a man comes to me and says his 8 year old followed the whole show all the suggestions. Now when his brother pulls his arm he still falls asleep. I said to the man that he was probably faking and I would come over and give him some special attention which is probably the point. This is not at all uncommon at family shows. Pay some attention to the kids and viola they are great. So I talk with the youngster and do the thing and put him to sleep and this kid is out. I mean whatever your definition of what happens is this kid is OUT. I was flabbergasted. I could not believe it and it got more interesting. First I just made it so he stopped following any suggestions and it was fine. But the family missed the entire opening lecture and MOST of the induction! Came in time only for the deepening. His father had just told him if he followed along it would work. Man I wish everyone on the stage was THAT good! So lets not argue real or terms. Lets not argue kids and hypnosis that is not the point. Whatever happens happened to this child and only part of the process. I was amazed.

I guess he was really suggestible and we don't don't know what "induction" his father had delivered. He already said he told him if he went along it would work. Did he tell him and build up the expectation even before they got into the room? His dad is also an authority figure in his life.
I remember once at half time a guy came told me his girl friend was in a trance and he couldn't get her out. She was sitting in the audience staring into space with her hands locked. I unlocked her hands told her she was feeling great and would really enjoy the show etc. When the show was finished and the auditorium was empty she was still standing there clapping and cheering. I had to go and wake her up again! |

His father is the ultimate authority figure.

I found it happened a lot where people would be really OUT at the back of the room or at the side of the stage who had no intention of taking part.
Definitions: it would be good if everybody stuck with the basic dictionary definitions then we would probably agree or at least know what we were talking about. I think most of the arguments that happen with hypnosis is because everybody seems to have their own definitions for some of the basic terms and we aren't really arguing we are just talking a different language. For example Being OUT would come under the definition of altered state meaning it wasn't an every day (Beta)wakened state. Just closing your eyes and relaxing will take you into alpha which is also by definition an altered state. Nothing really special. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia An altered state of consciousness (ASC),[1] also called altered state of mind or mind alteration, is any condition which is significantly different from a normal waking beta wave state. The expression was used as early as 1966 by Arnold M. Ludwig[2] and brought into common usage from 1969 by Charles Tart.[3][4] It describes induced changes in one's mental state, almost always temporary. A synonymous phrase is "altered state of awareness". |
