If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

It would be interesting to see the piece but I'm a bit old fashioned and tend to think of a work of art as a painting or sculpture - maybe even at a stretch, perhaps... I'm not really sure - an installation, but a dance piece incorporating a video or whatever it is seems a bit to far to travel to me.

Well I am not a fan of modern art myself. I have a book on African art though which explains how modern art originated from it. The gist of which is that people at the time it started were exploring Africa and bringing back strange looking works and so they got the idea of painting what they felt rather than what they saw in the world. So it was more spiritual like. So they started painting all this stuff that no one could make head nor tail of.

Sounds like an interesting book - I've read bits and pieces here and there about that - the influence of African tribal art on Picasso etc but not a lot. I don't know much about art myself and would find it difficult to draw so much as a smilie face - so I'm one of the philistine 'I like it if it pleases my eye' great unwashed mob.
