Time to brush up on my hypnosis, I could use some extra cash over Christmas ;-)
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Yes, would be interesting to hear Anthony's take on this topic. I personally think that the perp had met the shop keeper before the actual event as for me the way the video shows the crime happening resounds of a post-hypnotic suggestion coming into play.

That link says the authorities claim it was a "parlour trick." I hadn't heard about this parlour trick. Anyone know where I can read about this trick?

Hello Opus ,

I agree it sounds a bit vague regarding a 'parlour trick' however I think their main point is regarding distraction techniques ?

"Okay, and when you finish shuffling divide the deck into seven piles, being sure there are no fewer than six cards in each pile ... I'll just step out of the shop while you're doing that so as not to influence you in any way ..."

Can it be done? Yes.

Is that what happened here? Well that is not clear.

The experience of being asked to be involved in something novel and having your pockets picked is also likely to make you feel like "he was momentarily unaware of what had happened...” Given that the victim twigged what was going on as the guy left suggests that the effect was not that robust. If it was hypnosis rather than momentary confusion then it should have been.

Despite the quote from a magician on this topic, a previous encounter with the hypnotist is not required, this can be done on the fly.

One thing is for sure, once you are a good subject you are always a good subject, so 'Hops and Pops' in Archway it is for all your Christmas booze requirements!
