I would suggest you check out John Bannon's Chop cup routine which brilliantly skips all of that horrible guessing patter nonsense.
It also does away with the false move explanation in an equally brilliant way. It's in one of his great books... "Impossibilia"

The routine as described requires a table and you have to devote a decent bit of pocket space to it. But, I will say I think it is a fun routine to perform. I think I'll learn it again to perform at a magic club meeting if nothing else. Jay |

It all depends on who you are. there will be people who do the guessing game and others the storytelling. It is a classic magic dillemma and will alway have pro's and con's.I personally do the guessing while it involves the people. keep in mind that they still guess where it is even if you do the storytelling. some performes are not suited to do the guessing game. it is not that they are wrong it is the way you make it entertaining. I personally hate the story telling because I never met somebody who could tell a story so well done. I found it boring, sorry. I hope that I will meet somebody who shows me wrong.
I did both versions and learned that an audience is hard to a peoformer too. do a bad show and you understand. people are not that fair when it comes to a game. they want to win even if they have to cheat the performer. I liked the Doug Henning chop cup routine. start at 1.45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06O46DjlvzQ |

I performed a abbreviated version of Bannon's routine on my palm using the Loomis/Riser cup.
It worked great. This week I did a gig for a wine cork manufacturer and performed a simple version of Jiggernaut borrowing some of bannon's ideas. (thanks to my customer from the Café that reminded me about jiggernaut. hadn't done that in years)
