I mentioned this in another thread: the books of my late father's that my brother packed up and shipped to me finally arrived a few days ago.
I'm swamped these days with three month's worth of work that I have to finish by mid-January, so I haven't dived in and devoured everything as I would have liked. As I do so, I'll return here to let y'all know about the gems I found. A few tidbits: The trig book was there, as well as a couple of calculus books from which I learned the subject, and another book entitled "Foundations of Mathematics", part of which I used in a course I taught on mathematics for non-math majors. (I taught them, amongst other things, group theory and topology.) A book on mechanical drawing through which I remember working. A framed picture of the Pony baseball team of which I was a member in 1973. A scorebook from that same 1973 season. I just glanced at the first game: we beat the Orioles 13-5, I pitched a 5-hitter, and came to the plate four times: in order, a single, a triple, a double, and a walk. (Wonder why I got the walk that last at-bat.) More later. |
