As we approach the end of the year and we reflect on our magic purchases over the preceding 12 months (good or bad), I always find it so valuable when I learn from others what they found to be a great magical item or utility device that they purchased during the year. This is why every year Jamie Grant does the trick of the year award, which is so valuable both for the magic community at large and of course the creator.
What I was wondering is over the last 10 years, what have been your top 5-10 purchases that you would not want to live without in your magic arsenal? I realize that there will be a tremendous variation depending upon the type of magic that you the magician/mentalist tend to perform but I think it could be valuable to learn what others have found to be so effective. I know for me I may have overlooked a magical gem when I should not have. Feel free to include books and/or DVDs or anything you like. I don't pretend to be an expert but I will start us off. Here are what I believe to be my six top purchases over the last 10 years off the top of my head (in no particular order): Multidimensional The extractor Color Match Dean's Box Industrial Revelation Get Sharky Thanks for partaking in this exercise. If this has already been done and people seem it futile, them I apologize in advance as this is not meant to upset anyone or cause eyes to roll. I always learn so much from my colleagues in magic and was hoping to be turned on to items that I may have overlooked. |

My best buy was for my comedy act, two masks male and female from Karl Evans studio. I use them in a short vent sequence and the thing I get asked for most often. Fantastic masks for a reasonable price.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

My best was probably my first purchase, the one that got me back into magic performing and collecting: Marvin's Magic Executive Collection 2. I saw it performed at Hamley's in London and just had to get it. I still use tricks that came in it up untill now like Energized Coin and some others. Perhaps not the best trick(s) I ever bought but it is the reason I have a pretty large collection today.

My best purchase was a donation to the Magic Café.... I've gotten more good out of joining this forum than any prop, trick or magic related item I have purchased.
I encourge everyone else to donate as well... I'm sure every donation no matter how small or large is appreciated and I know it's well deserved. Have a great NEW YEAR !!!!!! |

Wisseman's Die, Think Pink, Glance, FIP and Cinema Verite were the effects I liked best, and Mitox was the one book that finger-snapped my brainpan.

My best purchases are ones that I use regularly because they get the best reactions. Most of them are "classics." I've learned them from different sources.
ACR to wallet- Real Man's Chop cups CnR Rope Invisible deck C/S/B Crazy Cube- yes, I said that. lol Mogar knives Slydini silks Jumbo Coincidence and Contact Colors by Aldo Colombini Sponge effects to include bunnies Then comes the books on presentation I've been reading. Fitzkee, Nelms, etc. Malone Meets Marlo #6 is my most recent favorite purchase. Great value for the money.

@Jan
a color prediction can be very entertaining. I do not even think Goshman really knew it what these things are. And 98% of magician do not understand his thoughts of the performance. |
