Perfectly Oiled, an 8-card red-blue oil and water effect, appeared in Star Quality: The Magic of David Regal, by Harry Lorayne, published 1987.

However... Regal recently told me that it might also have appeared earlier in Apocalypse, he wasn't sure. I haven't been able to settle this on my own. So, my question: did it appear in Apocalypse before 1987? I'd like the trick's earliest publication date, if possible.

Thanks very much.

Not fully authoritative, but probably pretty close - Searching with Denis Behr's Conjuring Archive only shows the Star Quality reference:

Maybe I'm using Behr's Archive wrong, but I haven't found a way to get an Apocalypse table of contents, so I'm not sure whether the page you linked would catch an earlier publication. Plus a lot of tricks appear under slightly different names, like Oiled Perfectly. That's an issue with using Ask Alexander. Unless you know the correct search phrase, you might generate a false negative.

Anyway, I do appreciate the link, thank you. But if anyone has something beyond that, please post.

After quickly consulting the index, I did not find any o&w effect by David Regal in Apocalypse vols 6-10.
So much to do, so little time . . .

You're welcome.
It might be in Apocalypse 11 to 20, but I haven't got them so I cannot check...

Not quite the same, but he does have a 6-card oil and water routine, titled "To Mix or Not To Mix," in the October 1994 issue (Vol. 17, No. 10, pg. 2422).

Heh. It's here.

Now I'm wondering if there are pages on the earlier volumes too, and I just confused myself.

Edit: ... and the answer is yes. If you use advanced search and search by title, tables of contents for the earlier volumes do come up. Oh well. Thanks for the help, everybody!
