Thought I'd pass this along to the community. I just discovered this today and it's frickin' beautiful. It's a flash card app that allows text, audio recording, and images. The text part works seamlessly with ipad and iphone. You can easily embed your own voice recordings into each card which can be set to play automatically when the card is flipped. It also does text to speech. I don't think they've implemented the audio/images sync yet though. Nevertheless, it's a great utility program to help with learning your lines. Requires a Mac computer and is $14.99 I believe. Here's the link... (I have no ties to the company... just passing it along)

I do it all the old way, not even using mnemonics, but just rote repetition. I figure if it's worth doing without a visual aid, it's worth remembering forever. So far I've memorized several different "things we tend to want to memorize".
Took me a while, but it's stuck in there pretty well, short-term memory loss notwithstanding. Cool app though, I can see that being a big help for a lot of people, maybe. Nice to see people actually making useful apps, so many of them just seem kind of pointless to me.

If you need an app to rehearse your lines then you're screwed. Not trying to sound mean spirited here. I appreciate the helpful gesture and all...

Hey, some of us use mnemonics, some use flash cards, and some of us just repeat it all over and over until it sticks. I say use whatever works. XD
I remember using "a visual aid" for performing an effect for a long time, until I realized I didn't need it any more. Imagine my surprise when I realized I was remembering faster than I could look at it.

Straight from my head and dislike for an app to rehearse theater.

It's just an opinion. People have them, it's okay. And they don't even have to be based on anything logical, for that matter. Opinions aren't the same as facts, or anything.
Part of being here is saying what our opinions are on things, after all. A lot of people loathe my opinions, and some people's opinions are loathsome to me, but it's all good. We're all here to discuss things and voice our opinions. Just sayin'. I don't think he's trying to be a poop-head, sandsjr, he's just saying how he feels about such things personally. I can see how some would find such an app to be useful, though I have no use for it myself. I just repeat things out loud until they stick, or visualize my list or whatever and keep checking it against the actual whatsit to make sure I'm remembering correctly. Some use rhyming systems, visual systems, stuff like Harry Lorayne's methods, etc., to remember things, and some don't. Some might use an app, some might find it abhorrent. As long as we're all gentlemen, or in the case of the ladies, ladies about it, I see nothing insane or wrong with each of us having different opinions about things.

It's all good. It doesn't matter one way or another to me who uses the app. I took the time to put the link up in the spirit of helping the community.

I'm sure someone will get some use out of it.
And cheers for having the sharing spirit. Even if it's something I have no use for, I can appreciate the gesture. You never know who might be helped by something, so why not share? We all have different ways about us and ways of doing and learning things. Now if I can only remember where I put my coffee...

Back to the app.
It sounds like you could have it do read or Q&A effect all by itself. Not much different from turning a card and looking up the "read" in a book Just set it on the table and head for the bar. Somewhere between an electronic fortune cookie and accessing eightball.com Just joking? or prediction?

Here's why I like it...
I'm working on Psychometry from A to Z and it's PERFECT for that. Easy to test yourself... plus... each card can have multiple sides so you can break a paragraph down into several 1 or 2 sentence phrases. Very cool. at the same time I'm working on scripts and keywords for the numbers 1-10 and other numerology related phrases at the same time I'm working on scripts and keywords for the different zodiac signs at the same time I'm working on scripts and keywords for aura colors at the same time I'm working on scripts for palm reading and graphology at the same time I'm working on cold reading lines for overweight people, skinny people, cocky people, shy people, beautiful people, average looking people, unattractive people, introverts, extroverts, poor, wealthy, intelligent, unintelligent etc. etc. And lastly, scripts for my own effects. Find a cold reading line you like? Pop it into one of your cold reading stacks. The point is, that's a lot of 3x5 index cards, random pieces of paper, computer files, book pages etc. to keep track of. With this program you can take a mountain of information and separate it into bite-sized, organized, and most importantly, DOABLE, chunks... thereby allowing yourself to focus more clearly and feel less overwhelmed. The piles of index cards can reside on my computer, ipad, and iphone. I can study wherever I go and never have to fumble around looking for my material. The fact that you can record your voice on each card is another beautiful thing. Just hit the down arrow key and hear a phrase repeated to you while you're here browsing the Café for example... a little subconscious learning. Or, keep a phrase on a big white virtual index card on your computer desktop. Glance over at it whenever you'd like and change it to the next phrase with the right arrow key. The advantages become clear when you start using it. Best to all! |

Sandsjr,
That's a lot of benefits you've outlined. I have a much better understanding of it now. I certainly see where it can be very helpful to people that prefer to learn that way. You're getting much from it. Keep up the good work. |

Alan Alda won't step on stage without applying my systems to his lines. Anne Bancroft wrote to me - "Thanks for making the drudgery part of my creative art." She goes on to say how she applies my systems to every script. None of these actors, including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dick Cavett, Mel Brooks, and so on, use apps - the "app" they use and apply is/are my techniques and systems. Yes; I'm quite proud of it. HL.
