I'm not sure how to say this other than just saying it!
Our dear friend, fellow magician and Café member Dean Dill is fighting for his life as he battles cancer! The simple fact is, medical expenses are astronomical and Dean and his family sincerely need our help. There are a couple ways you can do this: Scott Jenkins has set-up a fundraiser through YouCaring.com. If you don't care to donate, why not help out by purchasing one of Dean's great effects? You'll get something very cool and be helping Dean at the same time! To Donate: http://www.youcaring.com/…/help-dean-d......¦/286981 If you're not up for donating and want to buy something from Dean Dill http://deandill.com So we did an interview with Dean back in the day, issue 6 and here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOa1RU0KODk Enjoy and contribute! |

Dean without a doubt is one of the nicest guys in magic. I often think of Dean's Glendale Shoppe as "The Field of Dreams." Most anyone is welcome to get a haircut and chat about magic with Dean often innovating, sharing, jamming and coaching. Sitting there with other passersby like Rich Hurley and Pete Biro, I would ask myself if this was magicians' heaven only to conclude that it was .. all in Dean's Shoppe. He is clearly a guy that raises the bar and we are all benefactors of his wisdom. My thoughts are definitely with Dean through these difficult times but I know Dean's faith and conviction will persevere. Making my donation tonight.

The link to donate in the post by Kozmo did not work for me. This one will get you there.

I hope you are reading this Dean. We go way back to your first years in magic and Hollywood Magic. I couldn’t believe how fast you learned and became a legend. And you had the coolest beard in the history of beards and made a great one for me too.
I wish for you to apply the same ability in your mastery of magic and other skills to getting well and continuing to share your kindness and talent for many more years. Good thoughts and prayers, Art |

What's the latest on Dean

He is in hospice at home - the last time I spoke to his son Jamie was about a week ago and he indicated that Dean didn't have much time left. That's the last update I had from his family.

This is so sad.... I remember when I received a large close up pad in the mail. I was so impressed with it, that moments after opening the box, I made a phone call to his shop. We talked for a few minutes and I found him to be a really great person. I have great respect for him.

I saw Dean today and sadly the end is very very near. He is unable to talk, eat, move, etc. I spent some time with Dean about 3 weeks ago and he was able to have a conversation at that point. We said our goodbyes then. His health has deteriorated even further since that time. He did not want anyone to see him in this state. His biggest concern was obviously his family. Dean wanted to make a difference and I know he certainly made a difference in my life and in magic generally.

I trust that he is certainly being made comfortable. Dean certainly elevated our art.
