Or more precisely, the most liked threads in Café.

Just curious about what's happening here 2014, so I've done little math to list out the most like threads.

4. "A Piece Of My Mind" by Michael Murray ❤142

6. Wayne Dobson - 3SIXTY ❤126

Do I missed anything, or any other impressive threads in Café that I could checkout?

Personally, I think this #10 list actually leaves out the Penguin Live lecture news of Derren Brown, Dynamo and Mr.Berglas(❤99). And My most-would-buy, Paul Vigil's newbook Classic Fantastic(❤80).

Nice job, and I would add the "Official Trick of the Year Thread," the "Official Book of the Year Thread," and the "Favorite Mentalism Purchases of 2014" thread. There are many good recommendations in those ones.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to call this "The Most Popular Thread in The Latest and Greatest?"

There ARE other very popular forums here at the Café, you know. And I believe that thread VIEWS are a much better indicator than "likes."

Yeah good point Bob, I didn't notice when I posted the above comment that this was only from the Latest & Greatest

And those aren't even likes for the thread, but likes for individual posts. Some of those "likes" might be for a post that says, "What a stupid thread this is."

As I've said before the whole"likes" as a barometer of measurement is greatly flawed. There have been some great threads this past year, none of which are included above. Likes are from from an indicator of the most popular, viewed, helpful or based on contribution.

Just made a quick ranking of the threads, from Penny, Latest and Greatest, and some other section, check this out

`The Train Tracking` thread is very popular, as well as the `Becoming The Marketing Minded Mentalist` thread

So you think we should put more emphasis on views and reply number?

You what?

Smile

The OP was very interesting, but as has been pointed out, it is no reflection on what people actually read in this place.

Other than "most views" or "most replies", it's difficult to actually categorize things like "most liked" or "most valuable". Some threads have multiple pages of posts that are nothing more than hype about an upcoming product. How useful is that? Especially when once the product is released, there can be a lot of changes in perception.

Personally I think there have been some threads that are less than one page long that have been EXTREMELY helpful / useful. I've given up on trying to figure out what drives people to reply. In a lot of cases, it certainly isn't trying to help, or contributing useful information (to POSSIBLY ward off attacks, I don't claim to be guilt free on that front Smile ).

I agree, as this is mostly subjective to the interests and needs of each individual. But the number of views often indicates a topic of interest or participation for which members become interested in checking back and following. Before deeming it "popular" as in beneficial, I would identify any single thread for it should be determined that it is not a thread promoting something or something planted to create hype. This would eliminate many of the threads from qualifying. The Likes game is so flawed as it is often perpetuated by trolls or lurkers who feel they have the power to fuel the fire without participating OR exert there counter-productive/popular opinions. That's the other thing that should be a qualifying factor is the separation of fact and opinion.

Second some threads are topics that only apply to a certain niche. However, popular threads such as in Tricky Business can apply to everyone performing or in the business aspect of entertainment.

There are many better ways to qualify "popular" threads.

There is much more, but I'll stop for now.
