I love this book. Read it twice a year.
Exceptional insight into character and routining, presentation and impact. The concept of ‘The Parathearical’ approach has forever shaped my process. I actually had to purchase a 2nd copy after somebody swiped my book bag. It was my autographed Prof BC copy from the very first ECSS! I was gutted. Guess what? My bag was eventually returned, Phasmology intact, due to some sort of cosmic intervention. PM me Julian Kestral, maybe we can get you a copy of this book. Bizarre regards, Perkins

I would like to find Prof's "Phasmology" also, if there might be another copy floating about in the darkness that someone is willing to exorcise from their collection!

I was happy with my purchase. I am not buying it to learn new tricks, but the development and thinking behind the performance. And using these knowledge I can develop my own effect.

Vic at Gemini Artifacts just found a box of the Proff's Phasmology if anyone is seeking one. They are priced nice and liable to go fast!

What's in the book, *really* (rather than in 'Reese's' faulty memorial reconstruction)? Let's see:
pages 1-8 Antiquarian magic: a discussion of the movement of magic to present day and the place and importance of the bizarre movement therein 9-19 Who is Professor BC? a discussion of my bona fides and philosophy of magic 20 Illusion in the Mind's Eye: the mindset of bizarrist illusion 21 The Specious Moment of Magic: A warning about performance magic and what to be aware of and avoid. 22-27 The Parathetical Impulse: a full Vade Mecum discussing the central raison d'etre of bizarre magic. 28-31 Patter Tricks verse Story Magic: rolling back the veil to distinguish stage from bizarre magic 32-34 Paratheatrical audience psychology: how to approach the performance of bizarre magic 35-42 Storytelling 101: how to craft your script 43-46 The Curious Cabinet: the background to my personal act & routines 47-62 Clarissa: my long-underground 'signature' routine, revealed for the first time (never marketed) 63-78 Harbinger: another of my unique routines (never marketed) 79-92 Death Purse: yet another of my underground routines (never marketed) 93-94 Master the Craft: a sidebar review of the routines and approaches 95-102 The Relic: what is this? Yet another routine that I have never marketed 103-112 Haunted Inns of England: part of my regular repertoire that I did, indeed, once market--revealed here to illustrate how to develop your own unique magic 113-126 Obeah: Another of my (limited edition) marketed effects, fully revealed, AGAIN to demonstrate how I think through prop development and performance approach 127-130 Developing your Persona: a short treatise on developing your magic character (drawn from my 50+ years of professional stage work on the legitimate and magic platform including my decades teaching acting at the university level) 131-136 Blue Peter: yet another underground routine, never marketed, demonstrating the importance of character & presentation 137-144 Unlocking Performance Potential: yet more instruction on creating your character & craft 145-154 13 Miller's Court: a Jack-the-Ripper haunted key routine that I DO use with my Resurrection Cemetery Gate Key (and did include in those instructions as a 'bonus') but which had long been a staple of my routines and which I have subsequently published independently in Psycrets. Primarily included to illustrate concepts covered in the previous chapter. 155-158 Margery's Jewels: yet ANOTHER private-stock routine that I have never marketed 159-160 Learning to Fail: perhaps the most important advice in the entire book 161-196 Victorian Toe Tags: This is one of my signature routines that I subsequently marketed but which can readily be reconstructed using different materials (including photocopies of 'toe tags'), presented AGAIN to illustrate the concepts covered in the book. 197 And the Rest: signing off with a direction to consider moving into this form of what I call paratheatrical presentation. So that is, what? 4 of 10 routines that went on to be marketed, 6 underground except for this book, all of which can either be reconstructed from the book or at least used to understand the method of invention moving towards your own, unique performance. It is over 60,000 words in length and on par with or slightly larger than a number of other similar works such as the remarkable books of my dear friend Christian Chelman. And, as an aside, Vic has come across a box of these books that I had printed (second print run) specifically to help him during a difficult time in his life. I gave them him as a gift to sell. I receive NOT ONE RED CENT from these sales. However, this 'Reese' individual posted the same misinformation at the time and hurt Vic's sales. Vic tucked a box away and forgot he had them. Now the same person is posting the same misinformation. BC

I bought the book when it first came out and fully enjoyed it. Worth every penny! In fact, I think it’s time to reread it.

Just read my email fyi on this from Vic & popped over to GA site to grab 1 & already sold out. Good for Vic on fast sell out on these, sad for me lol.
I've always enjoyed ProfBC's manuals & thoughts he shares on the Dopp's forum & here, the kindness & help he's shown others, the freebies he's given, the costs he's put out that I'm sure he's never really recovered but does all of this with little profit for our enjoyment of the bizarre arts we so love ! Prof BC has our admiration & respect by most & deserves no less for all his he's done & continues to do, he is a gentleman & a scholar, over all just plain 1 AWESOME guy !! & I'm glad he's on the good side of the dark, lol.(could you imagine if he was to use his creativity in a wrong way OMG,LoL) Prof, your twisted thinking that we so love in all your effects you create & the massive pdf's that accompany them in themselves show the love you create for us ! A heartfelt Thank you is always in order towards you imho. |

I can honestly say, that as a collector and supporter of many magic creators, the good ProfBC leads the pack for his commitment to not only his craft, but also his customers - both directly and indirectly. Who else puts their heart and soul into their work, and then supports the product even if passed on to a new owner? That is pretty much unheard of in our community. And his manuals are legendary. Mythical even.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
