Am pretty interested in this illusion but have concerns.

The walking around and waving hand bit - I can understand the walking around bit, if properly attired, but the waving hand puzzles me. Without disclosing the modus operandi...the visual alignment worries me.

This illusionette is not ment to us a volunteer from the audience. You use an assitant.

The waving had bit is reflection. I don't know what you mean by walking around.

I was reading the ad blurb from Hocus Pocus.

Exact words in the ad are : "You can wave your hand behind the cabinet…walk behind it and all around it. Comes complete with torch …and remember…NO SPECIAL ASSISTANT is needed…use anyone!"

I understand that the waving hand is a reflection but there is no way that the hand and the reflection will line up irrespective of the angle of viewing.

Essentially you are correct. I have used this effect off and on for years. You can use a volunteer. They will know something weird is going on but as long as they can sit still you are okay.

Now, as for the alignment, you are correct it is an issue. The principal is used with submarines. It works quite well if you are on stage and there is a big solid colored curtain behind you. If you are in a room and there is a doorway, a picture anything like that which can be seen it will be out of alignment. so you would need a plain wall. As far as waving the hands. You can do that. You justwave them both at once, one high, one low, they see the motion from behind but not much more.

With perfect circumstances this is pretty good, without it is a giveaway. Abbott makes an arm cabinet, modernistic amputation, using a similar principal that has similar angle problems. The head chest however, using two of those certain somethings, rather than the one normally used, is about double the trouble.

I used this illusion years ago (22 years) WOW, time flies.

I used a lady ASSISTANT who had practice the bit. I found that if you were on a stage, you’d need the assistant to lower the front of the box (tilt her head forward). This way the spectators will be able to see the inside of the box better.

Also, I had the assistant turn her head slowly from right to left, so that the people sitting on the sides of the stage might get a better view of the inside of the box.

I did a walk around behind the box. I had a white suit and played in front of a red Curtin. I found that if I got as close to the box as I could, and briskly walked to the other side, no one notice. All they seen were white for a fraction of a second.

Keep the lighter in your hand. I have had the torch go out as it emerged from the other side of the box.

I agree with all that was said by Ray as well, regarding the presentation and limitations. One disadvantage of this, by the way, is you may at no point ever show the head is present. With a dagger chest the head is seen in the box...never with this. It this one.
