I was looking for an effect with coins for children and adults and a friend showed me his Solari's Misers Miracle. I don’t do much coin magic. However this effect allowed me to do a Miser’s Dream with minimal effort and produce a killer ending. Go to Bob Solari Magic and check out the video. This one will give you the feeling and appearance of great coin magic and an ending that no will see coming. Awesome!

From Jeff McBride
Bob Solari has created a simple and elegant solution to an almost sleight of hand-free version of the miser’s dream. In Solari’s version, the magician picks up a small can, about four inches tall, and three and half across, reaches into the air and apparently produces a number of Kennedy half dollars that are placed with a clink into the can. At the end of the routine, the little can is turned over and a jumbo Kennedy half dollar appears; the smaller coins seemingly vanished or melded into one giant coin. My student, Rick Silver, showed me his presentation of Mr. Solari’s method many years ago at one of our Master Classes. Rick had worked out a fun routine to a pop song about money. The routine worked, and was short and sweet. When Rick showed me the method, I laughed with delight at its pure simplicity. I also encouraged Rick to learn a more classic sleight of hand method. My favorite one is found in Bobo’s Coin Magic by J. B. Bobo. I realized it was important for Rick, and other students like Rick, to have an easily accessible version that gave them confidence and results. Solari’s version of the Miser’s Dream fills a place in the world of apparatus magic. This is an excellent beginner’s version of The Miser’s Dream. A beginner will gain confidence, and even a skilled sleight of hand worker will have a fun off-beat version of this timeless classic. What you get: small pail, coin production gimmick, jumbo half dollar and one page of instructions. The above review helped this coin kind of guy understand. I explored this Solari version for comparison with other methods of performing MD in Close-up and parlour settings -- even completely surrounded.
It is very workable but limited as to angles and variety of productions possible. Its ending with a huge coin as 'count verification" is better than "complete vanish," but is less Impactful than other possible ending, i.e. it is higher towards entertainment than magic. So, its effectiveness depends on what story the performer wishes to be told after, the setting and how this effect fits into an entire show. As indicated by Harris, this can have a place in your "pouch" but other methods should be explored. Since your goal is a good effect for "children and adults" it may have minimal use compared with other possible effects (coin magic is tough here) Performing for kids can lead to other show opportunities with repeat audiences. Never get so enchanted with one effect that you miss the need to balance Anticipation and Surprise. This effect (and all Misers Dream) looses much in a repeat. If you can vary the ending and types of productions though other methods the use of MD in shows can be very good.

Always liked Bob's simple takes on magic. He seems to find an easy-enough way to make it happen. Good Jersey guy.

Someone, a month or so ago, put up a link to Bob Solari's demo. of his MD. I was not impressed. When I started with the MD, that's the way I was doing it. I was 13. I've learned lot since then!
I don't know how to find the link, and, if I did, I wouldn't know how to "re=link" it. Bob Baxt, Chris Capeheart and I (as well as some guy whose name was Flosso) have done the MD for REAL audiences for YEARS. I know I've done it since 1946. I started with the Tarbell routine. When I mastered the DOWNS p**m, in my middle teens, I tried to be suave and debonair! I put away the tin can, bought "white tie and tails", and used a Champagne glass to toss the coins in. I was showing off my skill. Ring 103 members, a few years later, thought I was a god!!! Then, I did a showing date for an agent. He said "That's nice. --BUT, If you can make 'em laugh, I'll get you work." (REAL MONEY!) I tossed out the Champagne glass, and returned to the "tin can". I made enough $$$ part time, that I could send my Navy pay checks home for the next four years! Oh! I sold the tie and tails!!! A few years later, I was full timing it. The MD got stronger and stronger. Now, it closes the show. I was visiting with the late Faucett Ross, in the late '60s, (Faucett KNEW, T. NELSON DOWNS). Faucett said that Downs had told him that, THE REAL ENTERTAINMENT IS GETTING MONEY FROM BOYS' EARS, AND GIRLS' PIG TAILS!!! Al Flosso certainly proved that Downs was right. So did Bert Easley. Bob, Chris, and I have proved it, too. As funsway says above: "It's workable but limited as to angles and variety of productions possible." For his lecture,30+ years ago, Karrell Fox made up a gaff for the production of a coin. It must have cost Karrell, at least 15 cents! The production definitely looked as good as Mr. Solari's production! If you think that producing coins from the air is going to entertain people (especially young ones)you are "somewhat" mistaken. The rest of funsways post is what I consider a "mixed review". --and, I think that funsway is being charitable! Chris Capeheart, and Bob Baxt have already made DVR's of their MD. I'm publishing my routine, in my book. For years, I've kept it very "tight". I've only tipped it to a very few, and I've been well paid for it. One very successful professional, not only wrote a sizable check, he also sends me periodically, a "residual" fee! A fancy "chromed" bucket may be "pretty",but, it's not necessary. It's a MONEY TRICK! The bucket is needed for one reason. If you don't realize THAT, you shouldn't be performing it! End of rant!

P.S.
Bob's, Chris's and Dick Oalund's routine requires no fancy sleights, no droppers, not gaffed can. Our routines are loaded with laughs, and can be performed under ANY conditions! My routine requires not "set up", and I don't think that Bob's or Chris's does either. In short, All three of us prove the point: "It aint WHAT you do, it's HOW you do it!" OR,to put it in more formal language, "The performer (and his presentation) are more important than the props"!

Tin is in.
Though I don't use Bob's routine I think it is a great starting place and have seen it get good response from those that don't have Magic Glorified Hindsight. Sorry Dick O. I can't remember the correct reference you made to.... Some can use a bike the first time out. I needed training wheels. I do use a tin coffee can. Without the Catcher in the ....

I've used an aluminum ice bucket that has a nice sound when silver hits the bottom. The kids really love it. I may look into Bob's version with the kicker. Sounds fun!
