"Female disease" might be "hysterics", PMS, or politics.
I knew an old woman who'd walked in on her husband and best friend having sex. She was understandably upset. The next day, the hubby spoke with the family doctor, and together they decided that she was delusional. She was never consulted about it. She was committed in 1953, and finally got out in 1986, completely conditioned to the back-ward way of life. Her husband had never visited her, nor allowed her kids to see her. Her greatest pleasure was chain-smoking. It was the definition of tragedy.
