I don't know if this has already been told elsewhere, but René Lavand has passed away.
More than a wonderful sleight of hand artist, he was also a poet. He was 86 years old. I feel quite sad, indeed, since he was a great source of inspiration to me. Your magic won't die, master. http://youtu.be/hqzkGEvOOTc |

Very sad indeed. Fortunately for us, and future generations, much of his work has been captured on video and in print. RIP Rene..

The Society of American Magicians announced on its facebook page today :
"It is with great sadness that we report that magician René Lavand died today at age 86 in a clinic in Buenos Aires. Despite having only one arm, he was an expert in handling cards and performing other amazing feats of magic. Of Greek origin, Lavand became famous in the 60s when he took his art to theater stages which at that time was very unusual for close up workers. From there he became world famous and appeared on many television shows including Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He also appeared in Las Vegas, Hollywood, Europe and even Japan. Levand was very respected in the magic community and he will be missed." Another great master of magic left us... Thank you René for all the magic you created and shared with the community. He wasn' only an expert in the art but aswell in story telling. Thoughts go to his family and beloved. Rest in peace René Lavand! Oliver. |

The Maestro will indeed be missed. He sent so many of us in pursuit of elegance in performance.
