So any reviews? I watched the first 20 or so minutes, there was lots of lecture and not so much effect, I suspect those came later, but curious what others who saw the whole thing thought...

Hmm I have only purchased one at the table, and didn't watch it live, sucks if the viewer is a pain, but I look forward to your review!

Not sure about this lecture but if his lecture in London a decade and more ago is anything to go by it should be a great. I Always go back to that one by International Magic on a static filled vhs tape. Soo eye opening and informative and probably my favourite lecture so far.
Hope this helps, Cheers Greig |

On Feb 19, 2015, gtesoro wrote: I don't want to blame anything on you that is outside of your control, but here are the issues I had. (Running Windows and chrome) I have comcast internet which suffers fairly high packet loss currently at my location, and spotty service. The player allows for no leeway in that because you cannot adjust the quality of the stream. I was getting pauses every 10 seconds or so. Also the player is slower than others anyways. I'm not sure what restrictions you have with players though. About every minute the stream would stop. Trying to resume it (by pushing the play button on the player) would send me to the main page for the lecture and start playing the preview video for the lecture. After the live stream when the video is posted I ran into another problem. I am unable to use fullscreen. If the lecture is playing and I hit fullscreen it stops playing and the screen goes grey. Closing fullscreen will not resume the video either, so I have to reload the entire page (losing all buffering I had) and start from the beginning. Actually downloading the video isn't perfect either. The protection process is annoying to deal with as a consumer. I can understand the reasons for it, and maybe it's necessary, but I would be lying if I said it didn't decrease my enjoyment of the product. From my perspective I have to wait an hour get my name written in HUGE letters across the top of the screen. This may not matter to some people, but it really takes away a large part of the immersion from me. This wouldn't be that big of an issue if I could use full screen through my browser, but I already went over that. Also, the downloaded video was very choppy, which I assume came from the security protocol. (Note: All of this was from the First Jeff McBride lecture last week) And a last small thing, I don't understand why I wasn't able to download the video (or at least start the security process) immediately when it was released. This video was prerecorded so I don't know why I had to wait 24 hours to be able to view it after giving up on the live stream. (This is a small issue though as this lecture was the exception, and isn't really that big of a deal to me, but I figured it was worth mentioning. I don't mean for this to sound whiny. The material in the first half was well worth the issues (the second half is buffering right now, and probably having my name added in HUGE letters so I can d/l it) I'm not angry or anything, just pointing out the issues I had. |

Ok. Here's my review.
If I were to describe this lecture in one word... Fluff. I was really excited for this lecture because it's rare to have stage performers for these lectures, and this specific lecture was supposed to deal with performing for larger audiences. It didn't. Tricks taught A little bit of card manipulation 1 coin move that I'm not a fan of some card flourishes Double Dancing Cane There was zero advice for performing for larger audiences. There was some parlor style magic performed but not taught. There was a brief bit of generic advice for magicians. Almost zero talk on theory. The first lecture was fantastic and full to the brim of extremely valuable advice and information. This one was a $25 dollar tour of a house. I came in expecting some fluff, but also expected to learn a bit more than I did. Things I personally took away from this lecture: A card to silk that looked pretty good. And that's it. My advice is to buy the first one, but skip this one unless you are just dying to see what his house looks like. |
SmileAndNod Veteran user 316 Posts |
Also to add, I went into this lecture not caring about the tricks. All I cared about was theory and sparks for creativity. There was little of either.
Oh, and I forgot to add he taught a continuous sponge ball production. |

I love Jeff's stuff but I got the feel from the preview this wasn't going to knock it out of the park, thanks for confirming that!

Money Application w/ the Back Palm – Jeff shows you how to use the Back Palm in an everyday situation. Produce a playing card from thin air. The card visually changes to a $20 bill. To end, you reproduce the card and had it all to your spectator. This is a great way to hand out your business card! Money Production – With empty hands, you roll up your sleeves. Out of thin air, produce a bunch of bills! Jeff shows you various ways to use this great production! Silver Mirage – A giant coin vanishes completely from the fingertips! You show both hands empty; fingers wide open and spread! This is a beautiful piece of magic that can be done while the spectator’s burn your hands! A fooler! Sheeva’s Mudra - A very easy and fun to do coin routine that will leave your audience smiling. The Salamander & Spin – This is a flourish Jeff created using a single playing card that rotates around the deck. Jeff shows you how to make this simple to do flourish look even more difficult with the addition of a playing card in your other hand. The Double Salamander - For the more advanced, Jeff shows you how to rotate two playing cards around the deck simultaneously. The Interlock Production – A classic taught by one of the masters of this flourish. He gives never before talked about advice on how to make this move look totally magicial. Squeeker Technique & Sponge Ball Routine – Jeff shows your more squeeker techniques and teaches you a very fun and visual sponge ball routine that adds character with the McSqeaker. Start off with three sponge balls at the fingertips. Every time you take a sponge ball away and place it in your pocket, another one appears at the fingertips. This goes on and on for as long as you like. Card Spinning & Card Bouncing – Jeff tips the secrets behind this amazing flourish. Learn how to bounce playing cards off of the ground with amazing accuracy. This comes straight from Jeff’s King of Cards routine! Card Spinning Production – Also from Jeff’s King of Cards routine, learn this beautiful card production. Playing cards spring out of your hands, rotate several times in the air and land in the opposite hands! Vortex Double Dancing Cane – In part 1, Jeff covered the basics of the dancing cane. In part 2, Jeff shows you the inner workings of his double dancing cane. Learn how to construct the double dancing cane, as Jeff talks about what you will need, and how to put it all together. Jeff will also teach you a opening, middle and ending for this extremely visual delight with his Vortex Canes!

Greeting magical friends,
It is a great joy and pleasure to share my magic with our community. ... I hope they attract wise magi that want to pack small and play big! Unlike some other people that post on the Café, I stand behind my real name with 40 years of magic experience… many years of practice and development go into these effects that I offer to our magic community on Part 1 and 2 of my MURPHY'S AT THE TABLE lectures. This post is referring to my part 2 of my lecture. PACK SMALL & PLAY BIG? Many of the routines I teach in part 2 of the Murphy's at the Table lecture are the feature card and cane routines I used in my Las Vegas show and on THE ILLUSIONIST tour. As many know ,THE ILLUSIONISTS is currently the largest touring magic show on the planet. Ive had the pleasure to tour with this show on and off and it was a great experience. Take a look at this clip, and you will see some of the effects I teach on this lecture with canes and cards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vl26paBRIE&feature=relmfu Included in the part 2 of my lecture are my OPENING DOUBLE FLOATING CANE ROUTINE and KING OF CARDS FINALE routine. And in-between teaching effects, I share my thoughts and philosophy on magic and life. Vortex Double Dancing Cane – This is the routine that Simon painter, who is the producer of THE ILLUSIONISTS selected for me to perform as my opening act on the South American tour of THE ILLUSIONISTS. This is a revolutionary cane technique and a new system for cane levitation. This is the routine I opened with for THE ILLUSIONSTS show in South America. This s a pack small play big effect for the stage..not close up. Here is a clip of some of the pack small and play big effects I perform onstage as I tour 6000 seat theaters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vl26paBRIE&feature=relmfu CARD MANIPULATIONS FOR STAGE AND CLOSE UP: The Benson Move – I learned this technique from Bobby Baxter and have used it in my stage show for 40 years! it is VERY deceptive! Money Application w/ the Back Palm – I use the Back Palm in an everyday situation. Produce a playing card from thin air. The card visually changes to a $20 bill. To end, you reproduce the card and had it all to your spectator. This is a great way to hand out your business card! The Salamander & Spin –The Double Salamander - For the more advanced, Jeff shows you how to rotate two playing cards around the deck simultaneously. A pretty card flourish that inspired Adrie Jikh to use it in his Cardistry act. The Interlock Production – I learnd this amazing card production from Frank Garcia and Denny Haney. I've used it in my Vegas show for many years. Lay audiences and magicians are always impressed with this novel production. Regarded as one of the more difficult in card productions, I will show you the inner workings of this fancy looking move. I have never before talked about advice on how to make this move look totally magicial. MY LAS VEGAS SHOW FINALE Card Spinning Production – Also from my King of Cards routine, learn this beautiful card production. Playing cards spring out of your hands, rotate several times in the air and land in the opposite hands! I close my full evening show with this card spinning technique and the floor card bouncing. Card Spinning & Card Bouncing –My tips the secrets behind this amazing flourish. Learn how to bounce playing cards off of the ground with amazing accuracy. This comes straight from My King of Cards routine! For over 30 years,I've headlined many Vegas casinos and always close the show with this act. Now I teach you my techniques! I also closed my segment of THE ILLUSIONISTS show with the techniques I share on this video . COIN & MONEY ROUTINES: Silver Mirage – A giant coin vanishes completely from the fingertips! You show both hands empty; fingers wide open and spread! This is a beautiful piece of magic that can be done while the spectator’s burn your hands! A fooler! Steve Blencoe created this awesome coin vanish and reproduction. To see it close up is staggering! Shiva’s Mudra - A very easy and fun to do coin routine that will leave your audience smiling. I was taught this effect from the famous actor Eli Wallach! it isa "Heads-up- Hands _up" coin vanish and comical reproduction. Money Production – With empty hands, you roll up your sleeves. Out of thin air, produce a bunch of bills! Jeff shows you various ways to use this great production! I use this bill production often to pay a bill at a restaurant…it is fast and easy to set and always amazes. COMEDY MAGIC FOR CLOSE UP AND STAGE: Squeeker Technique & Sponge Ball Routine – I love the squeakier!…and squeeker techniques and teach you a very fun and visual sponge ball routine that adds character with the McSqeaker. Start off with three sponge balls at the fingertips. Every time you take a sponge ball away and place it in your pocket, another one appears at the fingertips. This goes on and on for as long as you like. this move I learned from Tim Wright who was the star student of Neil Foster. there is gold in here for those who value pack small play big material. As far as advice for paling BIG theaters…these effects pack in a small case ..but can show up in a 6000 seat theater..look at the video again SAME LINK AS ABOVE ( but you might like to see it again!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vl26paBRIE&feature=relmfu Please take a look at the list of effects I teach you..I have shared many of my best secrets with our community. THE JAPANESE FLOATING BUTTERFLIES- A classic of Asian magic. I was taught this hypnotic effect while on tour in Japan. You can use it Close up or stage! Also included are talks and advice: THEORY, PHILOSOPHY, PSYCHOLOGY, BUSINESS AND CHARACTER. Following is James Conti's Review: http://ireviewmagic.weebly.com/jeff-mcbr......t-1.html Jeff McBride came to At The Table for two weeks in a row. The first week (reviewed here) was filmed in the Murphy's ATT studio, whereas week 2 was filmed at the Magic and Mystery School (see the second review). James says: " During this lecture, Jeff gives you some extremely valuable insight into creating and putting together an act. He gives you a sample act and from there, you can take the routines taught and place them into your own act. There is a lovely "knots off silk" routine (with an extra variation taught), a card manipulation opener and a paper swarm of butterflies routine with a fan. Each effect is covered in detail, and he always gave extra variations and versions of the effects. A few other effects taught were: Long Distance Spinner Variation - this simple prop that is often overlooked can be used to speed up your long distance spinner. I discovered that it also gives you more accuracy too. Floating cane - Jeff taught his floating cane routine which uses a light up cane whilst the lights are dimmed. The routine is incredible to witness, and Jeff's theory on this routine is very valuable. Torn and restored bill - Jeff taught a really nice impromptu torn and restored bill with two phases. It is completely impromptu and can be done with a borrowed bill. This would be great to perform for a cashier when you get change back from a purchase. A few more card manipulation moves were taught as well Jeff's insight and advice is invaluable. During this lecture, Jeff gave so much away, and feel like I have become a better magician after watching this lecture. I honestly believe that. This lecture is definitely worth your time. 10/10 Product information: http://www.murphysmagic.com/Streaming/Product.aspx?id=55071 For more information, please visit: http://www.murphysmagic.com/atthetable -- P.S.
