This one was one the very first tricks i´ve learnt, so I can do it extremely smoothly and naturally. I get amazing reactions with this one, and the best of all is that I can do it 1, 2, 3 or even 4 times without being discovered, and spectators don´t have a clue about what happens. I really recommend you to learn to perform this trick, it´s a true miracle.
Now, do you have an idea of other rubber bands tricks I can perform after this one (or before)? So I can have a little routine prepared impromptu with rubber bands Thank you very much and sorry for my english |

I do this in family walk-around situations all the time. I actually hand out rubber bands to the crowd around me and we do a do-as-I-do type of thing. Great fun!

There were two I used to do from the Tarbell Course call The Jumping Rubber Band, and Thumb Tie with Rubber Band.
The first time I did the Crazy Man Handcuffs was back in the 60's. Man, I'm old. LOL Emmett |

There are some interesting routines linking a finger ring on a rubber band. I believe the one I use is called Pinnacle.

From the Dan Harlan rubber band magic tapes, I learnt a way to "melt" the two rubber bands into one, where it appears you just set up to repeat crazy man's handcuffs and then one slowly disappears.
A great ending and I highly recommend the dvd collection. |

I like to end mine with stargazer.
However with a effect so strong why do we want to add more. I dress mine up in a story about how magicians have always preformed solid through solid. I then get to spectators to hold a band out stretched between them then I do again really close. Once I was buying some stuff from a hobby / craft store and I told the lady helping me that the stuff I was buying twas to make a trick. She told her work friend I was a magician. She replied oh its all camera tricks and set up. I asked her to pick a few bands off a pile they had on the counter and I did CMH. The women that helped me took great delight in me stuffing her work friend. The other great thing this highligths is yes its exposed on You tube but we stil get away with it.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

This is one of the first tricks I've learned also and it is still effective. I've done Daniel Garcia's take on it where the other band is in the spectator's hand and I still get away with it!

If you look into the new Tarbell books. It's in Vol. 7 page 214 under the same name. Lou Tannen likes to do this with two differently colored rubber bands. And this was back in the late 20s. So you're telling me that Arthur Setterington, the creator didn't come up with this till 1970? I bet he owned a copy of the Tarbell course in magic too. Lol Emmett |

Ah yes, "The Crazy Man's Handcuffs"....I have probably performed this more than any other trick. I attended a workshop in Las Vegas many years ago at Gary Darwin's magic club. Michael Ammar was the guest. After the main lecture a few of us paid a little extra to get into the private workshop on this wonderful little trick. At that time Michael was teaching this and "Ring Bandit" which I also love....wonderful memories for sure....

Quote: Check out "Pennicle" by Russ Nedswiki. A wonderful little ring and band trick that follows CMH very nicely....does take considerable practice as any worthwhile trick does. I hope this helps...I'm not sure on the spelling on Russ's last name but it sounds like it's written...peace

Jon Allen has an awesome CMH routine in his Connection DVD. Ever since I learned his technique, I've been performing it. I think it's the best out there.

There is a DVD from about 8 years ago, it has many improvements
by Nabil Murday; called Linke! He teaches how to link 2 rubber bands, no cover: right and left hands each dangling a rubber band (dangling dpwn at chest height, a band by the tips of the thumb and forefinger, right in front of your body and how to link to a spectator's band he holds outstretched. visually link 2 borrowed rings(all the effects I listed use ungimmicked rings; I'm not sure if there are any gimmicked rings in this DVD Very well taught, from a really nice guy, John

I cannot find "The Uncanny Penetrating Rubber Bands" in the original Tarbell mail order course, but it is in the Tarbell book series published in 1972. Hmmm?
