Looks like nothing interesting has been invented this year, all tricks seem to be adaptations of other tricks.. so boring

I think that has been true every year since about 1935.

I'm not a historian, you may well be right, but I find tons of interesting things every year. There may be nothing. Ew under the sun, but today's light bulbs are a thousand times better than the first one.

To get more credibility or something? I thought everyone could express his opinion in the Café Also Bob Cassidy, I've seen some of the tricks you have on market, they seem quite promising, which one would you recommend for a beginner? Thank you |

Don't buy the newest stuff. Work backwards and get some books, learn some basics, make your own magic.

The worst way to learn magic is by purchasing tricks.
Read the classics first and get a basic understanding and foundation in the art. I highly recommend Henry Hay's "The Amateur Magicians Handbook." |

If he's really 15 and he's coming at it the way he is then fair play to him. He's clearly got Bobs attention.
Bob maybe you could mentor this one I like him |

To answer your initial post: This is only February. It's still very early in the year.
However, over the past year, Train Tracking came out (easily the best propless mind reading effect,) Bairn by Ken Dyne came out (some of the most workable material,) Unreal by Joshua Jay came out (one of the best magic DVD sets I've ever watched,) not to mention MANY MANY others. This was one of the best years for magic and mentalism in modern years. I'm sure many would agree. The problem is, you are new. New people like to buy single effect products. Notice that all of my top are books or DVDs that contain a collection of effects or principles. To someone new, these books and DVDs would really be worthless. They do not provide the foundation needed. Since you are new, I would HIGHLY suggest staying away from single effect DVDs and gimmicked effects. Start by learning the basics of cards and general slight of hand. It would also be a good idea to start learning necessary perfomance skills while you're young. Joshua Jay has two books titled "Magic: The Complete Course" I think this is an awesome book for beginners once you finish the book mentioned by Mr. Cassidy above. Joshua's book is loaded with incredible effects that are all very easy to do. With just these two books, you would have some awesome effects and techniques in your repertoire that would fool the pants off of all of your friends and family. Just my two cents. |

Yes, I've actually started going back to the old books again. I did hear of one that I haven't gotten as of yet...not sure if it counts as 'invented', but apparently "Maximum ENTERTAINMENT by Ken Weber" is supposed to be the truth.
My first name rhymes with Magician

Weber's book, Maximum Entertainment, should be required reading for everyone serious about performing.

Henry Hay's "The Amateur Magicians Handbook" is still one of the best magic books available.
Reads well, and has the best advice about sleight of hand over gimmicks that can be found. I still refer to my old copy. Should be read and reread by all, pro or not. http://www.lybrary.com/the-amateur-magic......565.html http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0......sr=&qid= James
