The Hofzinser Control works the same way, the third card is culled and moved at any place.
One direct application is to use it as a force.
Although the handling is slightly difference, the core process remains the same.

An alternative is to reverse spread the cards stolen, back to where their card lies.
If the process is reversed you get a force and a control similar to an under spread force followed by a convincing control.
