After this I'm going to post the first choice not as a challenge and see what you guys think the lyrics sung are.

So here is the original song issue...
As the lyrics appear on the www The Roman promoters really did things right. They needed a show that would clearly excite. The attendance was sparse so they put on a fight Threw the Christians to the lions, sold out every night As the lyrics sound on the recording... The Roman promoters really did things right. They needed a show that would thrill and excite. The attendance was down so they put on a fight Threw the Christians to the lions and sold out every night "the attendance was down" is the tough part to get clearly. I also thought "promoters" was "performance" ... But after much scrutiny its "promoters" Sorry to muck up your fun time. Arthur, would you guess incidents such as this are a case of original written lyric vs final mix on the album, or is it just people getting the lyrics wrong and it propagates through the www? |

Tom, I would think it's probably a case of both scenarios you mentioned. Sometimes the band will hand in their lyrics to the album cover designers, and when they record the song, the singer might change a word or two. Or, once a song is recorded (and the lyrics printed on the liner notes), the band goes on the road and in their live performances some of the words are altered. And at other times it's just someone getting things wrong on the internet.
The most interesting discrepancy I ever saw was on the Rolling Stones' 1969 Let It Bleed album. On the copy I had, one of the songs was printed on the album sleeve as "Love In Vain." But on the record itself (i.e. the donut), the song was listed as "Love In Vein." I always wondered if it had been done intentionally. |

Metal band from Switzerland. Hit their peak with a couple albums in the 80s.
Here's another verse. The gates was gettin' rusty, as we sailed into the dark The stars were out and shinin' against the moonlit hour The wolves were out and howlin', most of the time And I was cold and shiverin' and bleedin' in the night |

Screaming in the Night - Krokus
Let's try this one. Don't it make you feel bad When you're tryin' to find your way home You don't know which way to go? If you're goin' down South They got no work to do, If you don't know about Chicago |

When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin.
(Yes, it was written and first recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie, but that warn't no rock 'n roll record.) How about one less than two years old? If I think too much I can get overwhelmed by the grace By which we live our lives with death over our shoulders

A hint. It's a Seattle grunge band from the 90s that had a (surprise) hit with this song in late 2013 and early 2014.
Here are a few more words I pull you close, so much to lose knowing that nothing lasts forever I didn't care before you were here. I danced in laughter with the everafter But all things change Let this remain

Ok Nobody seems to be aware of Sirens by Pearl Jam. (You really should, you know; it's a fine song.)
And for all us dinosaurs, here's a great old rock song for you to identify: I've got fire water right on my breath And the doctor warned me I might catch a death Said, "You can make it in your disguise Just never show the fear that's in your eyes"

I've heard of the group but not the song, certainly not mainstream.

Ok then. The song was "Stage Fright" by The Band (the album of the same name was #4 on billboard, and the song was featured on The Last Waltz.) I guess it was a much bigger hit in Canada than in the US
Let's try one more. (I'm not trying to be obscure. Honest.) The road has got me hypnotized And I'm speedin' into a new sunrise When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough She sends her comfort comin' in from above

I've got your picture of me and you You wrote "I love you" I wrote "me too" I sit there staring and there's nothing else to do Oh it's in color your hair is brown Your eyes are hazel and soft as clouds I often kiss you when there's no one else around
